If I import my pictures from my camera in jpeg format, can I then save as a PE4 file and discard the jpeg. Or is it better to save both. I just don't want to have to much clutter. If I am going to send by e-mail and revert back to a jpeg, does it matter?

Norma,

The images you import from your camera are the equivalent to the negatives from a film camera. DON"T discard them. Save them as originals and work only on copies. You never know just when you might want one of those originals - even the ones you think are terrible shots ;)

Thanks Karen. I'll make sure to save my "originals". I have been but was wondering if it mattered or not. Thanks.

Just a quick addition to Karen's excellent advice.
When you save back to JPG for e-mail, be sure to use a different name or folder so not to overwrite the original. This file can always be deleted after sending as you can easily re-create it with your PSD file.

Also you can use Version sets while editing or Stacked Sets afterward to group a series of pictures and only have one of the group showing. This helps reduce some of the visual clutter when looking in Organizer (will still show as seperate images in non-Elements applications, such as Windows Explorer.)

Thanks Ward. Yeah, I've been saving as a different name. I've used version sets a bit but I think now I'll use it much more because my organizer is getting bogged down with lots of the same pictures, etc.

Hi Norma ..

When I save a small version to send by email I usually drop it in the trash as soon as I have sent it ... that way I don't get too many versions of the same thing :)
