Well, I finished the Layers class and found that I really enjoyed it, even though at times I become very frustrated and have to continually re-watch the lessons to figure out how to do what I want to. Some questions re the Day 21 Bonus lesson:
1. When the video starts, there are already two layers up in the Layers palette; a white background layer and Layer 0 with the bride photo in it. The video never really shows you how to get those layers. Do you just make the white background layer the dimensions that you want your print to be (I intend to print out the project)? And do you "move" the bride photo into the background layer and then resize the bride photo? The video shows the bride photo being resized, but I can't tell if it's already been moved into the background layer or not.
2. On the 66 pixel brush, I set my settings exactly the same as what they are in the video; however, my brush size is very small and not large like the one shown in use in the video. When the brush is so small, it's very hard to use on the edges of your image. Does this have something to do with the size of my image?
3. On the type text, I have the same kind of a problem. I have all the settings the same as those in the video; however, my text is so small, you can barely see it. And I thought I knew how to move the text once you're finished to get it more centered or in the exact place where you want the text to be, but I can't seem to remember how to do it. Anyone know?
4. I did manage to complete the project using one of my photos, but I'm not happy with the result. I tried to print out a 4x6 of the project and the finished photo ends up very small and doesn't even begin to fill up the 4x6 print area. Do I need to be sure that my background layer and my photo are the same size or pretty close to the same size before I begin working on the other layers in this project?
5. Also couldn't find the text that Matt used for the project. Is that text supposed to be included in PSE4?
Thanks for your help.

Just a comment that when I took the class (just finished 2 days ago), I went thru the video first, then I took step-by-step notes (starting and stopping the video) and then typed them up so when I went into the lessons I had no problem doing them. I stapled my notes to their printed out steps. I have bad memory for remembering something unless I've done it lots of times so this helped me a lot. Now if I ever forget, I have all my notes for each lesson.

Hi Bernie ...

1. It doesn't really matter which way you do it ... probably the easiest is:

Go to the layers palette and if the bride photo is a background layer then just double click on the thumbnail. A box will pop up asking you to rename the layer ... just click OK.
Then create a new layer Layer>New>Layer
and fill it with white Edt>Fill> choose white

Finally go to the layers palette again and drag the white layer below the bride layer ..

2. & 3 ... If you are using your own image then the resolution and size is probably much larger than the one in the demo ... so increase your brush size and increase your font size. As far as centering the text ... well just get the move tool, make sure that the text layer is the current active one and use the move took to move it into place.

4. If you want to print out a 4 x 6 then you need to make sure that your original image is large enough to do that. I would suggest a minimum of 4 incches x 6 inches and a resolution of 250 +

5. Elements doen't have its own fonts ... it just uses the ones you have on your pc but there are lots of similar fonts aroind that you can download.

Hope this helps :)
