I just ordered elements 4 from amazon and then 5 was announced the next day.
Here's my dilemma. Do I return the unopened package to amazon and order 5 or do I work with 4 and decide later if I should upgrade? It should be a no brainer to just return 4 and order 5 but I purchased 4 for 70 bucks and 5 will be at least 90 bucks plus I will have to pay return shipping to amazon. Futhermore I ordered Kelby's photoshop elements 4 for digital phototgraphers book and was wondering how long it takes for third party authors to come out with their books (photoshop elements 5 for photographers?)
I will mostly be using the editing tools in my wedding photography.
Thanks and sorry for the wordy post.

You know, I got an e-mail from scrappersguide.com, and she said that if you ordered 4.0 within the last month, you could call adobe with your reciept and serial number, and they would discount your PSE 5.0.
Here's the e-mail:
"If you purchased Photoshop Elements 4 within the last month (as in those of you who purchased the bundle on Amazon.com with my CD) you can get the new Photoshop Elements upgrade from Adobe for only the cost of shipping IF YOU ACT SOON!
Here's what you must do:
* Call 1-800-833-6687
* When you get the recorded message, choose Option 3 to get a sales person.
* Have your receipt handy, and it might not hurt to have your serial number written down also.
* Ask for an upgrade since you purchased Photoshop Elements 4 within the last month before the announcement."

has the order already been shipped? Sometimes it doesn't get shipped right away. For the x-tra $20 I would get v5. I don't think you have to worry too much about Kelby's book. It will still work with v5. It just won't cover the new stuff which I'm sure this site will.

Trish- I got that too, and that's what I would recommend doing. It doesn't make sense to have the old version in this case.

I subscribe to the Digital Scrapper newsletter and the editor, Linda Sattgast, included the following in her opening remarks regarding Photoshop Elements 5:
"If you purchased Photoshop Elements 4 within the last month (as in those of you who purchased the bundle on Amazon.com with my CD) you can get the new Photoshop Elements upgrade from Adobe for only the cost of shipping IF YOU ACT SOON!
Here's what you must do:

I know that at least one of my subscribers has done this and alerted me about the possibility, so I called and confirmed it with a sales person at Adobe.
I hope this helps everyone who recently purchased Elements 4.

My amazon order arrived but i didn't open it yet, I failed to mention that I purchased the elements 4 with the SCRAPPERS CD. Does any one know what that added to the value of the software? Is 70 bucks for both elem 4 and scrappers software too good of a deal to return? thanks --

ecks,
From what I have read in this thread. keep version 4 with the scrappers software, and call Adobe for the upgrade to version 5 for the cost of shipping and applicable tax. :)

I would second that recommendation - the training CD's from scrappers guide are excellent!
