The old photo of Niagara falls inspired me to ask if anyone has an old photo of downtown Banff from around 1958. My husband and I had arrived from Australia into Vancouver and were on the train across Canada. I would love to have a photo from that era for my journal of that trip. Have checked 'google' and found nothing. Jean

Jean,
My husband and I went to Lake Louise and spent a day at Banff for our honey moon, but that was 1994. I'm not sure all the pictures I have. I have one of the Banff Hotel, and another of the river there, and I think I have one more of the area (and a few Elk, I think :) ). I'd have to dig them out of my photo box and scan them. You could probably fade them and then replace some of the cars in the photos with 1958 photos. (I don't know, though, when I would find time to do this. I'm homeschooling and that takes the better part of the day.)

Jean- I wonder if you could get one from www.morguefile.com or another stock photo place and then make it look old? Just an idea in case no one here has any old photos.

Thanks both of you. I have a photo from 1997. The buildings probably are way different. But perhaps I could eliminate the cars and as you say change the colour.
So, Trish I might get back to you for a different angle than the one I have. Jean

Hi Jean,
I don't have any pics for you but one thing you might try is searching EBay postcards. You can refine your search to area and real photo, don't know about time period. Just don't get lost in there;)

Didn't see any from the 50's but the Glenbow museum (in Calgary) has a couple from the 30's and 40's that you an order large versions of on-line. You might find more from their search page or you could try emailng them for suggestions. Here's what I found:

PS And a train poster from the 50's - likely you'd find more pictures of the train that ran through the Rockies in those days

Thanks all. The train poster will work well. Checked morguefile before, nothing. Was amazed at what one can buy on EBay. I should have kept all those old brochures, but who would have known 50 years ago that someone today would care. Now I can start calling my 'junk' collectibles and tell the children not to throw them out.

I have a couple of slides from Banff, showing the main street, and Banff Springs Hotel taken in 1971 if that would be a help. Somewhere, I also have some B&W pics taken in the mid 50's, but can't lay my fingers on them at the moment. Let me know, & I can scan the slides.

Hi Wayne, sure would love to have one of the black and white pictures from the 50s if you can find them. No hurry at all. Jean
