I was looking around the Adobe Exchange site today and downloaded something called glitter.atn. From looking at the extenion I figured (I think anyway) out it has a filter extension. I went into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 3.0\Previews and tried putting it into textures (just a guess). Deleted cache like you're suppose to, but when I open up PSE, let it rebuilt, its not there. Can someone please help me and let me know where I should paste things with a .atn extension. I may be totally off and it may not work in PSE3 at all. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi Lori,
The files with an .ATN extension are Actions. Many photoshop actions will not run in Elements...most likely if not written for Elements, it won't.
Here's an article that may help:

Thanks for your help Diana. Here I am thinking I finally figured something out on my own by looking through the previews and seeing that all the filters had a atn extension and I just figured that it must be a filter. Oh well, I'm still learning.

Lori, actions, plugins and addons are a little confusing.
The (menu) Filters that came with Elements are actions, but they were writen specifically for Elements. The add-on actions for Elements, after they are installed, usually show up under the Styles & Effects palette under Effects.
Here are some websites that have actions written for Elements:
http://www.cavesofice.org/~grant/Challenge/Tools/index.html (Grant's Tools)
http://www.graficalicus.com/downloadbasket/categories.php?cat_id=8
http://www.panosfx.com/ (look in the Elements section)
http://www.hiddenelements.com/freeframes.html (Bud's Frames)
http://atomiccupcake.com/labelmaker/digitallabelmaker.php
Then there are the plugins which when installed usually show up under the menu Filter list, which are .8bf files. Here are links to some of those:
http://www.mehdiplugins.com/ (Kaleidoscope is great fun)
http://www.vizros.com/
http://www.xero-graphics.co.uk/freeware.htm
Here's a good article about add-ons and where to put the files once you download them:
http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/pselements/qt/freegoodies.htm
Hope this helps.
