View Full Version : Wacom for PC

I went with a friend yesterday to an Apple Computer repair store to pick up her repaired computer. I saw Wacom tablets and asked about the price. The man very hautily (is that a word?) told me Wacom's didn't work on PC because PC's are junk.

Huh! Well, I can't say after all the computer problems we've had that I can disagree but what I need to know is - are there any problems using a Wacom with a PC?

Works fine for me! I have had one instance of a lockup withing PSE4 but overall it's not a problem. I love my Wacom! :D

Leslie, I have only had the Wacom a couple of weeks and still learning to use it but I have not had any issues with it on my PC.

My tablet works intermittently. Can't figure any rhyme or reason to it. Seems okay if I use it from the beginning of what I am doing but if I go to the mouse for a while (which is a lot easier sometimes), the tablet does not work. The lights indicate that it is working but it doesn't.

Leslie,

Unless he showed you a specific model tailored for the Mac (with a different connector), current and modern tablets all work on both Mac and PC. Software offerings aren't similar and drivers look differently on both platform, but the tablets will work and act similarly on both Mac and pc.

Before I switched from pc to Mac, I had a Wacom Graphire2 and I was able to transfer it from my pc to Mac.

A Wacom tablet will work fine on a PC - my HP likes it no problem.

Ok thanks to all, I feel better now. I thought maybe it was only for the Mac but PC users were trying to make it fit. He was kind of grouchy (elitest Mac user). My best friend has one and can't understand why anyone would use anything else but it's not best for my family. She isn't snotty about it though. Ok, now I will go back to pricing, reasearching, .......

I wouldn't jump on this incident to start a Mac vs pC thread. Mac and pc users have been very helpful to each other here (and elsewhere) so, to me, this looks like an isolated incident, nothing more. GM owners will tell you Ford is scrap, BMW will tell Audi is the sh.. etc.

Otherwise, you'd be surprised to read what I hear regularly from pC users against Macintosh computers, when they have no idea what they're talking about.. it usually ends with something like...

"No, I don't own a Mac, I never did, I heard this story in the bus from a guy who's cousin went out with a man who's mother's sister had an acquaintance at the knitting club she attended only once by mistake because she was headed for the bowling tournament. Anyway, this blind guy read in the 1974 grocery flyer that there was an Macintosh apple pictured on page 4, below the 10 cents off coupon for Head'n'Shoulders shampoo...bla bla bla"

Ok, actually, I was born in 74.
In 73 too.
In 70, unfortunately.
In 69 when they landed on the moon (I believe it..!!)
In 68 when two scientists were sent travelling through time (Time Tunnel, the series).
In 67 for the Montreal Expo of 67.

But..

I was only 7 years old in '74... So before 72, I don't really recall all that happened :D

Next year, it's the big change for me... 40... yuk... I though I'd be 25 for the rest of my life... ;)

Also, I need to add.. I was at a party last weekend, with friends from my previous job (6 months ago). Then I met this young woman, the girlfriend of my pal at that workplace. We talk about stuff and I said, for I don't remember why, something like "You know, I'm not 30 anymore.. I need more rest nowadays". She stops and asks, very surprised, how old I am. I tell her the truth (25.. oops.. 39..!!).

Her jaws would have felt on the floor I wouldn't have been surprised more. She was speechless. She really believed I wasn't older than 30-32, at best. The comment that made me laugh was (and it's no jokes) "But you still play videogames and you talk like someone *our* age..".. LOL !!! Her boyfriend then added "I told you, he's not like the others.."

:D :D

So, videogames, Disneyland, my iPod and PSE must help in keeping me young :)

Ray the funny guy is back!
I don't think the new commercials on tv with the pc and the mac guy are helping pc sales any. They are pretty funny commercials though. Makes me want to buy a mac, but alas I have no money.

Ray, you could do what most of us woman do and stop having birthdays at 39.:D I will soon be 41 and nobody believes me either. When I was turning 37 and nobody believed me I made a joke of saying I wasn't having another birthday until I looked my age. My husband didn't get the joke, he tried to blow off my birthday. :D But believe me, I didn't let him.

40 totally freaked me out:eek:
I fretted over turning forty for SO long...... Now, I just turned 47 and I thought. 'why am I freaking over 40, I'm closer to 50:eek: '
50 will be no big deal. Guess only 'cause I don't have a choice. They just keep on 'comin!
I still play ball, do a few things probably a little crazy for a woman "my age".
Beats the alternative.

I do wish I was still in 30's:o

They say that age is a "state of mind". If that is the case then I would have to say that with as much fun as everyone has in this forum than not a single person here is over 30.:D :D

Kim,

I agree - age is a case of mind over matter - if you don't mind, it doesn't matter :D

Turning 40 didn't bother me in the slightest - but when my baby sister turned 40 this year- yikes! It was easy to forget I was over 40, after all I had two kids under the age of two at the time (I got a later start on motherhood). But when your baby sister is 40 well that makes it so much harder to deny your age even to yourself. I'm fortunate to not look my age, and toting a couple of little ones around with me helps fool people into thinking I'm at least 10 year younger.

I like the PC/Mac commercials - they crack me up. My father-in-law would be thrilled if we would switch to Mac, but I have to have a PC for work so no chance of a switch unless I give up my part-time job. And work-at-home jobs are hard to come by, so unless we win the lottery I'm stuck with a PC.

Oh and my wacom works just fine with my 2 year old Dell computer.

Karen ...

My grandmother used to use the as old as my tongue phrase and up until now I hadn't heard it for years ... :)

I'm still staying quiet about my age ... :D :D

Age is what ever limit you impose upon yourself, or let others impose upon you. Be it in terms of activities, hobbies, friends, etc.

I never let boundaries limit my life, I'm too young for that! ;)

So, I'll be shopping for Nintendo Wii at x-mas time, and will visit Disneyland (California) in 5 weeks :D :D (yes, it's confirmed, Disney tickets arrived yesterday !!!!)

I have a PC & Wacom & I love it! The only way I could get used to it was put away my mouse.

As for age... consider the alternative - either you grow older or you die!

When I was 30 the thought of turning 40 made me nauseous - it seemed so OLD.

Then at age 36 I was Dx'd with a rare, potentially fatal disease for which there is neither a cure nor treatment. I was told I would probably not see 40 & I should go home & get things in order.

Suddenly the BIG-40 sounded like a wonderful dream & I prayed that I could at least celebrate my 40th. The day following my B-day I prayed to see my 50th. I celebrated my 54th b-day in February & I'm planning ahead to 80!! I LOVE GROWING OLDER. Mother is a 23+ yr. colon cancer survivor & proudly tells everyone she is 83.

I would never lie about my age - - - lie about my weight? You betcha! Hey, I never said I was perfect. ;):p

Thanks for your responses everyone!

This evening I thought I would try the forum once again with Firefox. However, this time when accessing Firefox, as usual I was prompted if I wanted it to be my default browser. Previously I had selected No, but this time I selected Yes.

Guess that was the glitch because now I have no problem typing this message & all the other times I could not. Go figure!!??!!

NEXT QUESTION - how many fo you use Mozilla Thunderbird with Firefox? If so, what do you like / dislike about it? I'm a former MS Outlook user & more recently have been using AOL.

Four or five years ago, in an attempt to diagnose an equilibrium problem, the radiologist discovered (and had the nerve to tell me right there on the spot, not waiting for my doctor to ease the news on me) that I had what looked like a deadly tumour in the centre of the brain (where the spinal cord is attached). I had to wait 14 days for another test (MRI) before they could tell for sure what it was.

The longest days in my life.

It was a stain on the sensor of the first machine :D :D :D (a touch of dust and scratch filter would have fixed it.. lol!)

Since then, all news I get, good or bad, I take it very lightly.

As for Thunderbird, I tested it at work, it works very nicely. But I will admit on the PC, I prefer Outlook Express. On the Mac, I use Apple's Mail and it's all I want.

Ray
P.S. The equilibrium was fixed by getting many quiet restful nights.. hahaha!
