Hello Everyone;

Well it's been a lot of hard work but the Illustrator Techniques website is now up and the first issue of the newsletter has been shipped. The second one is looking amazing as well. Check out www.illustratortechniques.com and sign up to get a user gallery, subscription to 8 issues a year full of tips, tricks, and awesome feature tutorials, and website-only text and video tutorials which are updated each week.

This next issue, besides a lot more tutorials, features a short interview with the lead animator of a recent vector film about vector art and inspiration, and on the website we'll have a tutorial on how to create the look from A Scanner Darkly using Adobe Illustrator.

I am very excited about this brand new publication! Feel free to post any questions or send me any questions about it.

OK, first question: I've always shied away from Illustrator for the simple reason that my drawing skills are next to zero. I have a friend who's a graphic artist who is a wizz at Freehand (the Company Formerly Known as Macromedia's Illustrator) and an outstanding artist as well.

Does using Illustrator productively depend on being able to draw well?

Thanks!

Mike

Hey Mike;

No you don't have to be an amazing drawer to use Illustrator, there are many techniques to use, plus practice makes perfect. :-) Chad

Chad, any discounts for PSE subscribers? Great! Now between here, Illustrator Techniques, and Photography on the net, I won't have time for Eating and sleeping. At least I will make time for bio breaks.

Oh my gosh-what a neat looking program! I'll have to keep an eye on this one, thought I just bought Painter and haven't even had time to play with it yet-too soon to think about a new one! Thanks for sharing this. . .now if only I could think of a practical reason to buy it . . .

Hello Deb;

Well it's the premiere program for illustrating obviously, plus if you are creating a logo, or even art, as you change it's size it retains the resolution, instead of becoming pixelated like a raster file. That's the biggest difference, but there is a lot to learn with it, just like the other Adobe programs. Chad

Think of Illustrator is to illustration and graphics as Photoshop is to photography. Since I don't have a graphic arts business, nor do I do this for gainful employment, I have no legitimate reason to have it other than I got it bundled with PSCS2. I bought the suite instead of just PS CS2.

Nancy ? Fries ?? hm, not sure about that...that would just be too much fat in your diet....I should not do that to you :)

I too think it's a little bit over my training budget. I would just love to be a member, but saving for a house now.. And Illustrator is really just for fun, I don't do serious work with it, not as I do with PS.

Maybe if we keep on bumping this thread up, Chad will get back to us with good news (or is this what we call wishful thinking ?? hehe!)

Ray, ya, nudge him ! :)

Perhaps they could have a 3 day ' Open House ' thingy ? Ya know, look before you buy ??? ... I'm full of great ideas aren't I ?? :D :D

As well we are also saving for a home and in this day and age it's really a difficult thing to do although gas prices are now slowly dropping so this helps alot !

Hello,

There's no discount for Elements subscribers, but if you are a NAPP member there is a 10 dollar discount I believe. We add to the website every day, and the print newsletter just expanded to 28 pages, just like Elements. :-) Chad

Gas.. I wasn't sure if this was localized to my little corner of N.-A. or not... It's 83.9 Cents (or, the price it was before this thing all started) Yeah..!

Jodi, you look such an expert at shopping that I'll bring you with me next I go hunting for a new car :)

Oh well.. thanks for trying, Chad!
