This advice from Linda Sattgast:

If you purchased Photoshop Elements 4 within the last month (as in those of you who purchased the bundle on Amazon.com with my CD) you can get the new Photoshop Elements upgrade from Adobe for only the cost of shipping IF YOU ACT SOON!

Here's what you must do:

* Call 1-800-833-6687
* When you get the recorded message, choose Option 3 to get a sales person.
* Have your receipt handy, and it might not hurt to have your serial number written down also.
* Ask for an upgrade since you purchased Photoshop Elements 4 within the last month before the announcement.

I know that at least one of my subscribers has done this and alerted me about the possibility, so I called and confirmed it with a sales person at Adobe.

When I first arranged with Adobe to create a bundle with my CD (last January or February, I believe), the release date was scheduled for Mother's Day (last May)! Because of circumstances beyond my control, the bundle was delayed until it was finally released this summer.

So I'm pleased that there's a way to for you to upgrade if you wish, but you must act SOON!

Hi Norm ...

I'm pretty sure that they did a similar thing when they released PSE3 ... not quite sure how people from other countries deal with it but probably worthwhile to phone Adobe in their countries and see what they say :)

That's good to know; I have a friend who had just purchased PSE4 on my recommendation only a week ago! Hopefully she can take advantage of this. :)

I just got off the phone with Adobe and yes they are doing post annoucement upgrades to Elements 5 for the cost of shipping and tax if applicable. Not starting to ship until after Sept.25th, so if you've recently both 4, call up.

Thanks Norm.

Nice of Adobe to do something like that. I'm sure that will make a few people here happy!

I am dealing with ANOTHER vendor that refuses to upgrade me even though I purchased their software 20 days before they announced an upgrade and made it immediately available. Says something about customer service. They are out of Korea and I don't think they grasp the concept of customer service like we do.
