View Full Version : Photo Album Corners by Dave Cross

I was attempting the video by Dave Cross for adding Photo Album Corners to a photo. In his video, he can move the corners so that they are just outside of the picture. When I try to move them just outside of my picture, they are not visible outside of the picture. My second problem, is where he gets the two bottom corners done, he merges the layers, then duplicates the layer and drags the two bottom corners up to the top. When I try to drag the corners up to the top, I get an error message that the layer is locked, but I didn't lock it. If anyone can shed some light on where I'm messing up, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

It isn't the background layer is it? That automatically locks itself.

Lyeah,

Welcome to the forum. Ihave just recently made some photo corners. I am not at home but I will try and help :D

As Deedee says make sure you are not trying to drag the background layer. If the layer is a locked background layer, double click on the layer and unlock it.

Make sure your photo corners are above your photograph. When you have got two corners finished and you Ctrl+E (to merge them) and Ctrl+J (duplicate) do not drag them without having your shift key held down.

Hope this helps.

Hi Lyeah ...

... and welcome to the forum :)

I think that the confusion about moving the corners just outside the photo is because Dave has added extra canvas to his photo (so instead of the photo filling the whole image he has a white edge around it)

You can do that by:

Set your background colour to white
then do Image>Resize>Canvas Size
Make sure that the Canvas Extension colour says background ...
Then click the little box where it says relative and put a figure in the width box (make the figure about 10% of the figure for width that is just above there. Next put the same figure in the height box and click on OK.

You should now be able to move your photo corners outside the photo.

Thanks everyone for your recommendations. I will try again when I get home from work. I was working on a photo that had been cropped, so I will try adding some canvas and see if my corners will move outside the photo better. I definitely wasn't working on the background layer, so I'm not sure why I couldn't move the bottom corners up to the top. I will rewatch that part of the video and see if I missed a step. It was getting kind of late when I was doing this last night. Thanks again everyone.

I tried it again several times before I realized that my main background of the photo is all white, so I really couldn't see the edge of the added canvas. So I changed it to extend a blue canvas, and was able to get the corners over the edge of the photo.

The second problem just took a little practice. When I clicked on the corner and pressed shift to move it up, it was jumping to the background layer and saying it was locked. I just had to find a better spot on the corner to click with the move tool, and it finally worked.

You can see the result at www.kodakgallery.com/jax-moseley-gallery

It's a photo of my daughter's soccer coach and his wife after we won the Labor Day soccer tournament in Tampa, FL. The coach's wife is who got me interested in photography, and subsequently interested in Photoshop Elements.

Thanks again for everyone's input. I'm really glad I joined this place. You guys are great.
