Wendy, I'm using your tut to try to make a globe (I'm using PE4). After filling the shape with a pattern (and I don't have a rusted metal color-is that in PE3?) you say to simplify the layer. But if I go up to Layer/Simplify - I can't choose simplify. I can't get by this instruction so I need help. Is this tut for PE3 and I should be doing something different?

Hi Norma ...

I guess that you are up to making the base ?

Do Edit>Fill Layer and choose pattern
then double click on the pattern icon and another box will come up
click on the small black triangle in the top right hand corner and you then need to choose "pattern"
Rusted metal is in that set of patterns.

Go to your layers palette and make sure that you have a background layer and a patterned filled shape layer. The shape layer should be the current active layer .... I suspect that you may not have this layer as the active layer so just click on the layer thumbnail and try again.

You should then be able to do Layer>Simplify Layer

It works in both PE3 & PSE4 :)

Yeah, oops sorry - I am making the base.

I'll try your instructions and see what happens. Thanks.

Actually, something is still wrong. I have the white background layer and the layer with the rust base on it. I'm able to now simplify.(here are still marching ants around the base at this point!) But, then I use the elliptical marquee and make the globe and it's positioned on top of the base (a little is over the top of the base). Still on that layer, I do edit-delete and there is just an outline of the base and globe with marching ants around it. I think something must be wrong here. Cause if I don't see anything but an outline and I then try to move the selection down to the bottom, all I see is the bottom outline of the base. I must be missing something but don't know what.

Hi Norma ...

I suspect that you have the Elliptical marquee set to Subtract From ... change it to Add to.

Hopefuly that will sort it out
