I am a Newby and I sure would appreciate some guidance, please.
I am using PSE4 and my desire is to learn the most effective possible workflow and selection of tools for basically retouching, i.e. removing the glare, of pet eyes and people's eyes in digital photographs. I am now reading my fourth book and I have learned from the books the I and PSE4 can do almost everything except cook breakfast, but these sources do not lay out a reasonable step-by-step work flow procedure nor do they recommend the specific selection of tools.
I sincerely express my thanks to all of you who helm I with eyes!
Thanl you,
Tom

Hi Tom ...
... and welcome to the forum :)
The art of retouching images is a large area ... there is a class on it. Click on Online training at the top of this page and just take a look and see what it covers ..

Well, we mere mortals may not be able to make breakfast with PSE, but Wendy can:

While I followed your advice, Wendy and kay, and I sincerely appreciate this, I did not find what I seek.
I will try to be a bit more specific. Consider a pet dog photographed indoors with a direct, on the camera flash. The fuzzy nuzzler often looks like a space monster in the direct print. The pupils of the eyes tend to become a glassy, glaring often deep jade green or similar. The highlight looks like a white pinhole in a matrix of green soup, pea soup of course.
What I seek, hopefully is a suggested workflow(step-by-step suggested procedure) and selection of the simplest of tools which applied reasonably will return the fuzzy-wuzzy from space to my desk picture frame. I am looking for beginner's level eye-pupil fixing and not something to hang in the Louvre.
As a thought, after watching the video you recommended, which is easier, "painting" in the pupil or layering and painting and layering and painting, etc.?
In anticipation of your complete and detailed answer and possibly a great, cooked breakfast, I offer my sincere appreciation.
Have a great day all!
Regards,
Tom

Hi there,
Check out the tutorial on pet eyes in Techniques, vol/ 3 number5, p.12-13.
This is a very easy step by step method on the pet eyes. Not the only way of course, but it is quite effective.
Good luck.

I understand that the new PSE5 will not only cook breakfast but auto adjust any imperfections in your cooking. You can darken your toast or yellow your egg to just the way you prefer. Might be time to step up!! :)

hi Tom ...
Pet eyes are more difficult than human eyes ... often the only solution is to paint them in or to substitute another set of eyes. I keep a collection of my cats "good" eyes and it I have a problem with an image then I may have to seek out a matching pair of eyes.
Sometimes the following method works but not always:
Select the green area plus a few pixels ... feather a little.
Enhance>colour>hue & sat> ... select green from the edit box and reduce saturation to zero or thereabouts (you may have to try yellow as well)
Enhance>Brightness & contrast>levels .. move the left hand marker in about a third of the way and move the centre marker over to the right until the area goes dark ... not too far or it will look artificial.
Its worth trying it ... although it won't help with any white areas :)

EYE am very appreciative of the wonderful assistance from all of you PSE friends. I hope someday that I 2 can repay your assistance by helping others if I can learn enough skills with my computer. When you are chronologically gifted, weaned on a slide rule and abacus, using a computer is something like visiting a foreign land without the appropriate dictionary!
Have a great weekend and wonderful shooting and printing to all!!!!!!

Wedy,
Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is what I was looking to find out. What you have written and what I have been doing are very similar. I actually have zoomed my dog eyes and using the bencil I have as randomly as I can mottled greens and browns, pixel by pixel and finally shaping the white highlight(catchlight) so as to be slightly oblique. I have then reduced the zoom and printed up to 8 inch X 10 inch. The results are satisfactory, but a bit harsh. I think the feathering may cure this harshness.
Wendy, have a great weekend.
