Okay I am trying to do the wood frame tutorial. Everything runs smooth, I got the faux wood background created. I go to use the shape tool with a frame shape selected, I drag out the frame, I hit enter to commit, and it deletes everything. Why? When I drag out the frame it shows on the screen a cut with just the wood frame showing but when I hit enter (or the check sign) to commit it deletes everything.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why.

Or you sure you are using the shape tool and not the cookie cutter??

It is only doing this in PSE4. If I do it in PSE3, it works fine. Any ideas why?

Well now you are beyond my limited knowledge. Hopefully someone will be along with words of wisdom.. :)

It is supposed to be cookie cutter, and that is what I was using.

I mistakenly said shape tool. Let me double check that I was using the right tool in PSE4.

Yes I am using the right tool and when I cut the cookie cutter shape to commit it, it erases everything, the background and the shape.

I went and tried it on mine with just a plain white background. Using the cookie cutter. It cut out everything else and left the frame. I have PSE4.

Hi Dee Dee ...

When you use the Cookie Cutter everything that shows in white (on the custom shape preview) will be deleted.

Is yours actually deleting everything on the page? ... if so then select the cookie cutter, go to the top left hand corner of the page (the little cookie cutter icon) and do Reset Tool.

do let us know how you go on :)

Hi Dee Dee ...

Great idea about the screenshots ... sometimes they make it so much easier to sort out :)

Okay here are the screenshots. The first two everything is going peachy. I have the background changed to the faux wood, but in the third is what happens immediately when I draw out my frame with the cookie cutter, it doesn't just make an outline of the frame until I select, it crops everything out but the frame, and when I hit enter, it deletes the frame. Try as I might I can't figure out what is happening.

Hi Rich

Subscriber Area>Videos and then look for on called "Realistic Wood texture" (31st May 2005) ... Matt makes the wood and then does the frame. :)
