Anyone have any inside info on when Adobe will release a new PSE for the dual core Intel chip in the new Macs. I love this Mac but I found that PSE's performance was pretty anemic. I doubled the memory to two gigs and that helped but it's still a bit of a dog. (still a fan though!)

Hi Jor ...

No one seems to have heard anything about it :(

The main reason Elements it is running slower on the Intel Mac is because it can't run natively so it has to use Rosetta.

Arggghhh... Just when I thought I was getting the jargon with classic, carbon and cocoa (man, the Mac world is a different place!), you throw Rosetta at me!!! ha ha Good ole Wikipedia: "The name is a reference to the Rosetta stone, whose discovery made it possible to comprehend and translate Egyptian hieroglyphs."

Anyhow, PSE still runs fine but I'm looking forward to a version that is written for this processor. Thanks for the quick reply, Wendy.

Hi Jor ...

Oh sorry I didn't realise that you were a new Mac user :o

Do hope that you are enjoying using your new Mac ... which one did you get ??

I got the iMac dual core with the 21" monitor. After 23 years of PCs (I bought the original IBM PC and finally took it to the dump last week) I am enjoying getting into the Mac world. I knew it was different when I read the beginning of a Mac tutorial that started out, "Power on, dude!"

jor,
I recently switched to iMAC after years of Windows PC and PSE 4 running in Rosetta is as fast as Photoshop CS2 on the PC. The Mac native update for Photoshop is due out mid year of 2007. Maybe at that time they will also update PSE for the duo core Mac's.

Hmmm... maybe the performance I'm experiencing is normal. Anyhow, other apps on this setup (iMac, dual core, 2 gigs) are quite peppy so I expected PSE to be the same. It's still enjoyable to use so it's not that big of a deal. I'll look forward to the 2007 release. It will be interesting to see the difference.

A friend of ours just switched from the pC to the Mac last week. Well, she will as soon as she receives her new iMac Dual Core 2. She's very excited ;)

We showed her iPhoto and PSE4 (on the Macbook so that she knew what to expect in terms of performance). What surprised her the most was connecting her Canon Rebel and downloading the pictures from the camera, no drivers required :D
