There should just be a font organization whose only purpose is to track down fonts and have them at one easy to use website.

We have had some links posted where to get free fonts, how about everyone posting what their favorite font(s) is(are) and the source.
I'll start--One font I find myself using often is Care Bear Family. Several sites offer it free. One link is:

Hi Diana ...
Why not start this in a new thread in Pixel Hangout ... its just that if we all answer in here then the original information about font sites is going to be lost in the thread ... :)

Thanks, Ray-I didn't even know about validating fonts. Is there a way to do this prior to installing?

Double click on the Font file, it'll open in Font Book preview screen. Click on Install and Front Book will validate it.
Though it works ok if you move the font file for Care Bear directly in the Library / Fonts folder, using Font Book to install it gives this error and refuses to install.
Ray
P.S. Font Book is a Mac OS Panther & Tiger exclusive. If you're running an earlier version (i.e. 10.2 and prior), no luck :(

Oh well, you see, I just learned how to bake a Banana Bread (thanks Diana !!!). I was a lousy cook. I could actually spoil boiled water :D
Seriously, when I like something, I like it a lot, so I research abundantly to learn the max I can.

As a matter of fact, I cooked one for a friend at the office yesterday evening. Moment she got it, she wanted the recipe :)

Karen,
I've never devoted enough time to font management, but one place to start your research is www.versiontracker.com
