I was so excited to see the wonderful scrapbook kits and I was able to copy many things I wanted to use. However, there were several pieces that would not copy. They way I had success on all the ones I copied was to right click on the large copy of the item and then copy and paste. There were a few pages of things that would not copy. When I right clicked on them I didn't get the drop down menu - just a little tiny window with the option to email, save, IM, and some other things. When I tried those options it wouldn't let me. There were several pages I couldn't copy but the ones I remember are the embellishments that went with the lighthouse kit.

So - am I the only one who had this problem? If not, how did others solve the problem?

Thanks, Andie

PS - The zebra, giraffe, and elephant I made sure look strange on smugmug. They weren't at all deformed when I sent them. Nita says that some stuff does look funny. I am going to download them to see how they look after they are copied.

I had trouble at first too Andie and I've only downloaded a couple so far.

The way I'm doing it now, is to click on the image I want which makes it large. Then I click on "save photo" at the bottom of the main page (just underneath the large photo) which brings up a download window. Next select save. You'll note that the file name in the next screen has .jpg after it - I delete the .jpg part. Make sure the save as file type box says jpg for papers, and/or png or gif as the file type. Then save to where you want it.

The .jpg after the file name was saving everything as a .jpg and then I was unable to open them to use.

I don't know if I'm doing it the right or easiest way but it is the way it is working for me. Make sure you check a few of your pieces and they are opening in the right file format in Elements, inorder to use them - applies to the embellishments only really.

Hope this helps. Maybe Nancy or Wendy can step in and tell us how we should be doing it most effectively. :)

Not sure what the answer is Andie. I've had the occasional problem too. And sometimes the embelishments aren't on transparent backgrounds.

I sure wish there were a way to download the kits in complete sets rather than piecemeal. Maybe in my spare time (when the baby is up and won't sleep in the middle of the night) I'll do some research on options for doing that.

Jane,

I was getting a white or black background with embellishments as well at first. It was because I was right clicking and using "save as" and it was saving as a .jpg file automatically.

With the "save photo" method I'm using now, the correct .gif or .png will appear in the file type and I get the transparent background correctly. I do have to take the .jpg extension off the "file name" though before saving. (see my previous post).

This might be a case of "the blind leading the blind". I'm sure we'll hear from Wendy or Nancy who have their eyes wide open! Unfortunately this is my first time at all this as well.

Hi guys.
Here is how I do it and have had no problems.
I click on the thumb of the item I want to save. Then across the bottom below the picture is a series of sizes. O stand for original. When you click on that it enlarges the page or item to full size. Then right click on the full size image and choose save picture as. This preserves the PNG or GIF clear background. You can double check that by seeing what file extension it is assigning. If you attempt to save at any size other than Original size - it seems to try to convert it to a jpeg. Using the save photo option at the bottom also turns it into a jpeg and it automatically flattens it and you end up with a white background.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks Nancy, so much easier when you're doing it the right way!

It was working for me but the long way round... this will speed up the download considerably.

Hi Andie ..

The images you send to Nita need to be square .... otherwise onscreen they just look distorted.

I create a square blank file and then drag and drop my embellishments on to it :)

Wendy, do you save each individual embellishment as a .png or gif before dragging them onto to the blank sheet which is also saved in the same format. Or are they dragged as a .psd initially and then the whole sheet saved as a .png / gif?

How did you have your sheet of embellishments display a black background but yet still download as a transparent background? It looks so nice displayed with the "colour" behind them.

Hi Pat ...

I just drag then across from the psd and then save the whole thing as a gif .. the background sort of happened by accident :o

I'll see if I can work out what I did :D :D

Pat ...

When I save a gif using Save for Web (in Photoshop) its comes up with a black background and I haven't worked out how to change it.

Elements doesn't have all the same settings and I just can't get Elements to save it with a black background :(

I was wondering about where all of you who have downloaded some of the scrapbook kits, where are you storing them on a cd or your harddrive.

Thanks Vesta

Mine go into my digigscrapping file on my hard drive. I have that file divided into a whole bunch of sub folders so that I can more quickly find things.
