A quick Blueberry Story for you Steven (Redsky)

The CNR graciously gave short 20 minute rides to everyone during the Blueberry Festival here this summer. A new event this year and super popular! Most of the ride was on a little used sidetrack and a short distance over the over-pass and back. Even Blueberry Bert got his ride!

Late into the day we were finally awaiting our turn with our grandchildren; we had declined the previous trip as my husband had made "special" arrangements for our grandson to ride in the engine!

What's the worst thing that could happen for CN - yup, a derailment! It was too funny.... the "little engine that could" slipped off the track when the old section of the track came apart. No one was hurt obviously.

Since the railway here has been seriously cut back, they had to bring in repair men and equipment from Winnipeg which is five hours away. I thought for sure we wouldn't see this offered in next years Festival but apparently they are going to do it again.

.....and no, we never did get our ride ! It was shut down and free pop and chips handed out to everyone who had waited in the hot sun only to be disappointed.

Pat- Interesting story. Obviously the 6 axle engine they used was a bit heavy for the side track, maybe next year they could use some lighter power.
Sorry you didn't get the cab ride you were hoping for but at least you have a memory of this year's festival. Are you going to dust off your VIA passes and head out into the prairies sometime?
I'm glad you worked B. Bert into the story. You know if you hadn't I would have asked about him!
