This zebra and the giraffe in your gallery are just delightful! They remind me of a Dr. Seuss book. They would be fun to make some wall hangings for Clara and send her grandma's version of one of his books. ;)

This giraffe is just so funny - I think there is actually a Dr. Seuss one like it but his "spots" are round.
Love it Linda!

Nancy, Robyn and Wendy -- thank you for the nice words :)
Robyn, they weren't too difficult.
Started out, of course making the selection of the animal.
Put the cutout animal on a layer above a solid black layer.
Made selectons of some of the spots (or stripes) and put them on their own layer.
Ran a Hue/Sat (with Colorize checked) on the first spot (or stripe) layer to make them the color you want.
Repeat with additional sets of spots or stripes.
Merge all of the spot (stripe) layers with the animal head layer and run a filter>texture texturizer on the merged layer (mine texture was from a photo of flowers).
Add a slight bevel to the animal head.
Increase the size of the canvas, to make a border.
Create a new layer below the black layer and fill it with a color. Run a texture on that layer. You might want a bevel on that layer, as well.
I think that's pretty much what I did. It was fun. Glad you got a smile out of them.

Linda,
You make it sound SO easy!! I sometimes get overwhelmed with all the creative things I see here and my lack of creativity. Then I just go away for a while. I can copy what someone else has done but just never come up with the ideas myself. :(

Well, thank you, everyone! I'm not all that creative either. I love "borrowing" ideas from others here. But this one just seemed like a natural. I looked at my photo of the zebra (with a washed out background), and thought, "This is a toss-er." Then I wondered what it would look like if the zebra had more colors -- and this is where it took me :) Have fun with it, and I hope to see some creations by some of you, using this a a starting point.

Oh, I might add . . . this seems to work well even if you don't get a perfect selection of the animal, so don't be too meticulous. And I forgot to mention that I used an outer glow on each of the heads. But that's probably obvious when you look at them.
