There have been a few threads in the last couple of days on bubbles and orbs, so I thought that I would try and combine the two. This is the result.

Your bubble and orb is awesome.

How did you get the one orb to look like a plate?

I noticed that is your other orb as well
That is a really nice idea.

Thanks guys.

Anna..............just put the second orb into free transform, also use the perspective as well, and 'squish' it about to get it how you want.

Robyn,

I always check the new gallery insertions before I come onto the forum and even before I enlarged the orb & flowers, I knew it had to be yours. It is amazing - I doubt if I will ever get to your superb standard.

Just one more quick question?

How did you get the rim on the orb plate?
Sorry, to be a pest about this but my curiosity is peaked...:)

Ah.......... thanks guys. :o :o

Anna.......the rim on the plate is just a stroke outline (on its own layer) around the plate with a silver bevel layer style applied.

Are you okay with stroke outlines?

Robyn - Absolutely gorgeous -wow. Someone said something about tutorials for this. That would be wonderful. I have looked at all the bubble stuff so far and haven't found a tut that looked easy to follow for a dummy -

Hi Robyn

My problem seems to be when I do a stroke outline that it only goes around the whole picture and not the orb. I tried it on its own layer but the same thing happens. What am I doing wrong?

Robyns, that is an amazing piece of ART. I would love to learn, where can I found a tutorial if you don't mind that I ask?

Just Great :)

Anna,

You need to "select" the area you want the stroke around. Make sure you are on the layer that you want to stroke and holding the Ctrl key down click on the thumbnail and this should give you "marching ants" around the selection. Create a new layer above, then go Edit > Stroke (outline) Selection > select a width > select a colour > and (usualy) select Centre > OK. As long as you have your stroke on its own layer you can add a style to it later (or change its colour). Hope this helps.

Thanks Karen for explaining to Anna about the stroke outline. You beat me to it.

Thanks to all for such great feedback. A couple of you mentioned a tutorial.......which I would be absolutely hopeless at doing. Half the time I'm 'wandering around in the dark' and hoping for a miracle to happen.

But with this......... it probably looks harder than what it actually is. It is really only two orbs. To make the plate just put the second orb into free transform (you will probably need to use perspective as well) and 'squish' this orb around until you are satisfied with how it looks. I then used the dodge and burn tool to darken the centre of the plate and lighten the edges and so make the plate a bit more dimensional...............and put a shadow under the bottom of the orb.

Any questions, or if I can be of help in any way, please ask here or PM me? I'm tickled pink that I can give a bit back to this forum, as I've been doing a lot of taking ever since I joined. :)

So are you making Sally a book of fairies? These would really be cool in a printed book - maybe even add a little story for her. Beautiful job!

Hey Robyn , you went over the top with the orb, it is perfect!

Looks like one of those very expensive glass 'paper weights' that I see in
specialty shops.. Nice job........Tom:p

Wendy........that is fabulous.

You mention 'crazy' background............any tips?? How did you do all those lovely geometrical type swirls like you had in the background of your 'red' orb creation?

Wendy
September 1st, 2006, 06:27 PM
Hi Robyn ...

The Orb itself was made from an image that I did using the "swing the camera" technique and I was photographing fiber optic christmas lights. Then I had put a challenge image below it, changed the blend mode and done a Hue & Sat layer on it. I did all that ages ago and it was just sitting there in my challenge folder ..

So this is what it started off as, then I cropped it and orbed it. Then cut out the orb, duplicated it 3 times and flipped them in all directions :) using lighten as the blend mode on the top 3 orbs ..
