Hi;

I'm completly new to Photoshop and Digital Dark Room. There are some terms in PE4 that I have no idea how to used them and when. Can anybody suggest a book, a site or a Tutorial where I can enhance my PE4 and Digital Room IQ.

For example when I'm using any of the tools on the tool bar you can see terms like:

Feather, Anti-Alias, Edge Contrast, Frecuency, Tolerance, Contiguos, Sample All Layers, Aligned,... and if you get into any other options there will be more and more of this.

Hi there,
I usually seek advice on this site instead of giving it, but here goes...

The video tutorials as well as the written ones are awesome on this site. Start by checking them out.

As far as books go.. I've relied on: PhotoShop Elements 3 "Down and Dirty Tricks" by Scott Kelby ( I love the way he explains things, even though I have PE4, now). Also,Photoshop Elemetents 4 for dummies. It does a nice job of explaining terms too.
And don't forget the forum, there are so many 'experts' out there that have helped me a lot!
good luck

Hi ...

I don't think that there is a book that covers things like that but ... :)

... if you type any of the terms in the help (top of the screen with a ? next to it) then you will usually get an explanation. I just tried it and it seems to cover most things :)

Hi HF,
I think the book you need is the Missing Manual by a lady who's name I can't remember. It is full of easy to understand explanations of all the points your raised. I'm sure someone will be along withe full details.

It's the Missing Manual by Barbara Brundage. I have it and I would thoroughly recommend it.

Hi hfg,

You may want to try this book: Photoshop Elements 4 A-Z (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0240520173/sr=8-1/qid=1156597666/ref=sr_1_1/104-1319112-2473501?ie=UTF8). I reviewed the Photoshop version and it's very useful. It does explain the terminology as well as the tools themselves.

Hello Wendy !

Thanks, I did try your suggestion and works fine. I have some PE4 books but think I'll also consider the books that you all recommend.

Have you checked out the PSElements Glossary under Help > Glossary of Terms? Not real indepth definitions, but short and to the point.

And here's an online glossary:

I had the A-Z book for PE3.. did a review but there were many changes around that time. I sent it to 3 different people at 3 different times and by that time 4 was on the horizon.

I did like it... seemed to cover everything in a very concise manner. As much as Barbara's book is great and has a wealth of info, more so than the A-Z.. The A-Z would have been a great inclusion for a manual. Just bare bones info without many how tos .

The Missing Manual does cover all of those terms. It will also tell how each work with different tools. I refer to it ALOT.
