Lost in Translation

I have Photoshop Elements Version 4.0.

I was short of hard disk space on my old computer so I stored a lot of photos off-line on CDs. I have just updated my PC so I now have lots of hard disk space. As this was a new PC I reinstalled all my applications and to copy Elements across I just did a backup to a DVD on the old machine and a restore into the new computer.

I now find that I have lost all of my proxy images and cannot bring them back into elements with out loosing all on the comments and tags I created.

How do I being the photos back?

Did you get your catalog file - it's in a hidden folder - by default it is called MyCatalog.psa? There is a tn.x.cache (where "x" is a number) that is your thumbnails, and there is probably a proxy file somewhere, but I don't know about that.
