I seem to have lost the ability to add drop shadows. I make a selection and lower the saturation of the background then I try to add a drop shadow or a bevel, cant. I select and deselect and I switch around layers nothing. When I am following exact directions I can do it. I cant do it on my own. i must be doing or missing something.

Hi, Chrissy,
If you want to add a drop shadow to a selection, it has to be on it's own layer first. The fastest way to do this is to make your selection then click CTRL + J. The selected item will then be on a separate layer. The same principle applies to any object that you want to add a layer style to. Helen

Hi Chrissy
Are you talking about making a selection on a new layer and filling it with black and blurring it, or about using drop shadows from the layers "styles and effects" dropdown?

I think I need to put it on its own layer. I had this problem before. I just havnt done this in a while and forgot about about about the layer. Thanks.
