View Full Version : Downloading class photos in "Workflow"

 Help! I'm in color correction, part 4 of the Workflow class, my first online class. I don't know how to "download" the class photo, and "unzip" it.

And what is this Adobe Reader thing for? It looks like an empty notebook; is it for me to use? or just some enabling program having nothing to do with me, but rather the functioning of the programs, etc.?

I wonder where the best organizational place is to store the PDF downloaded files;currently I just print them. Also the downloaded class photo? Currently I can't seem to download it, but previously I just made a folder in my own My Pictures area where there are about four previous class photos that I can access.

Also, I have tossed the Adobe Photoshop album Starter edition 3.0 Readme as it seemed to interfere with my previous system for organizing my own digital pohotos. I realize that at some point I will have to address this issue as well, if I want to fully use the PSE program, but it has not yet arisen (I think). Is this program needed for this course?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Susie ..

Well to download the images go to the page where you click to watch the video and you will see a box that says image available for this lesson. Now look for the words Lesson 4 image and click on it. The image will then appear in a new window and you will be able to right click on it and save it. The site seems to be running a little slow at the moment so it may take a moment or two for the image to appear.

Adobe Reader is simply the program that lets you read PDF's ...

I store all the PDFs and the class photos in a folder on my desktop but you can keep them anywhere.

Hope this helps :)

Dear Enlightened Elder,

Thank you for your reply. I seem to be really struggling with minor details that are preventing me from getting to the good stuff!

I was successful in getting the photo downloaded with the help of your suggestion to Right Click. Then I figured out that there were SAVE choices in the new menu.

Now the problem is that I have this thing called "thumbs" in my folder. When I dble ck on it to open it, I get a warning that "editing or modifying it could damage my system", so I did not open it. Am I out in left field somewhere? What should I do? (I'm trying to apply lesson 6 Workflow class to the sample photo that I can't seem to open.)

Also, the only way I could find my question and the reply from you was when I put the word "unzip" in the Search box. I don't seem to be posted in with the other Beginning Elements Users? Somewhere it said I was not a group member or some such thing, but my name is listed in a list, I see. Am I supposed to do something else to access this forum?

Thanks for your patience!

Hi SusieQ ...

Your thread is actually in the Online training section not the Beginners section ... so look in there next time and you will find it. Also you can subscribe to threads ... when you are typing a reply to a message before you click on Submit Reply just scroll down the page and you will see it.

Ummm :( for the one about the images I really need a Windows User to jump in here. Being a Mac user I don't know the answer to your question .. are you looking in Mypictures (I think thats where they get stored)??

Thumbs (actually thumbs.db) is a file that Windows XP creates. You can ignore it and even if you delete it Windows will recreate it. It just stores the thumbnails of the images in the folder when you look at the folder using My Computer/Windows Explorer.

BTW if you're just seeing the thumbs and not thumbs.db you should change the options in My Computer/Windows Explorer under Tools>Folder Options. On the View Tab uncheck the box that says Hide Extensions for Known File Types and click on Apply to All Folders. XP hides extensions by default and that makes it hard to tell what files you've got - tricky when you have pdf's jpg's and psd's in the same folder.

Wendy,

Thanks for the cyberspace rescue! At least now I know I'm in the Online training section, and all this gobbeldeygook is starting to make more sense.

Let's see if I click in the right spot for a thread subscription?
