I am trying to calibrate my computer to my printer with a product from X-Rite,
and was told by their tech support that the photo`s in Elements needed to be smooth proofed. I can find no referance to this in Elements. Can anyone help me with this?

Hi there and welcome to the forum. I think what they mean is soft proofing. You can do it in Photoshop but not as far as I know in Elements. I think there was a thread about it a while back. If I find it I'll post a link or maybe someone else knows more about it than I do (which is virtually nothing :( )

Hi Glen ...

... and welcome to the forum :)

I've never heard of that I wonder if they mean soft proofed. That is something that Photoshop can do but that Elements can't. Basically its just a way of seeing how an image will turn out if it is printed using different inks and paper.

I would have thought that their tech support should have known that Elements doesn't have that capability

EDIT ... Tony you beat me too it :)

Thank you for the replies.

You both are correct, it is soft proofing.
Tech support for X-Rite thought this could be done in Elements and Elements tech support confirmed it can be done, however, Elements wanted $65.00 to tell me how.
X-rite told me that this was nessesary to calbrate the hardware, do you know if that is correct?

thanks again, Glen

Hi Glen ...

Using PSE4 you can change your printer profiles and you can calibrate your monitor but I don't know of anyway that you can soft proof. Maybe someone else does ?

Here is a link to some information on soft proofing but it is written for Photoshop and uses things that Elements doesn't have ...
