Now that I am a Grandma :p I decided that it was time for me to take some time away from Elements and make something for Ruby.
OK its a little bit too old for her now but I'm sure that in a year or so she will love it ... I just couldn't wait until next year to make it :)

Is there anything you don't do? :D That's so cute. She will love it I'm sure. My grandfather gave my daughter a doll with a crocheted dress when she was little and that is her most prized possession. It's funny because every time we get a tornado warning that is the first thing she grabs to take to the basement. She adored him and that's all she has left to hold onto since he passed away. She tells everyone "my great-grandpa gave me that and don't you dare touch it!"

Crochet is something I have done for years ... I never could master knitting but crochet I took to like a duck to water.
We were out a couple of weeks ago and I saw the crib and the doll so decided I would get it ready for when Ruby is old enough. I'm going to try to get a pink and white bag/suitcase and fill it with clothes for the doll.
I think I am just enjoying going it .. I actually did several baby shawls long before she was born (Umm ... about a year before she was born so I did two in pink and two in blue)

Wendy,
First of all, I read your title - Time away from Elements - and thought "She can't go!"
Then I saw your post and the darling crocheted things you made for Ruby and realized that that was what you meant. Whew! She will treasure them.
I would also not have been surprised if you had said that you had made the entire image and were posting a tut in the Subscriber Area!
Cheers,
Helen

Very nice and I must admit I had the same reaction - I looked at the image and thought - wow that's another nice piece of photorealism from Wendy. :D

Wendy, very nice. I hope when my son is old enough to get married and have children he gives me a granddaughter. I always make dolls for friends and family when they have a baby girl. I can't wait to make one for a granddaughter. I have a crocketed outfit and blanket my mother in law gave me when Chance was born to put on the doll and my Dad made a cradle for him. I think it will make a beautiful present for a granddaughter. They can use the cradle til she is too big for it and then she will always have it for her children. I can only dream for now. There aren't alot of girls in my family history. I have 4 brothers and can only think of a couple of cousins who are girls.
I too was scared that you were leaving the forum at first. Again, very nice, great job.

Wendy, how gorgeous that is, I'm sure she will love it. You could make Ruby and the doll matching outfits, that would be a neat pic.

So beautiful & sweet, Wendy! And I can tell (from my crocheting days) that it's done perfectly & precisely--just like everything you do! I must admit that the title of your thread put the fear in me, too!!!! Yikes--say it ain't so, I thought!

Wendy, that's okay. When you think of it, there are a lot of scared people who will be relieved, as I was, when I found out the truth. Russ :p

Wendy,
I thought when you said "time away" that you were taking an extended holiday to go play with Ruby.:D:D.
You talk about me and the things I do, well now, I do believe you are also showing your multi-talented abilities. Your crocheted clothes reminded me of my Mother, (who taught me how to crochet) who would always crochet Baby Bonnets and Baby Booties. I have done a little knitting, but like you I'm much better at crocheting.
Ruby, will treasure that doll always, I'm sure. Isn't being a Grandmother wonderful.

Yep, my heart sank when I read the title.
My husband's mother made something similar for my daughter and her cousin and it was a big hit. How talented you are!

That's lovely Wendy. You'll have to make a set in Ruby's size.
I love to knit & crochet but I save it for winter.

Hi ...
I really did enjoy making the clothes and the things for the crib ... crochet is something that I do to relax.
Usually I crochet things for premature babies and I used the gown and hat pattern for the doll ... I did have to increase the size a lot as I usually do very tiny ones.
Colleen I do sleep :) ... its just that due to the time differences it looks like I don't. Have to admit that I do spend a lot of time here :)

Wendy,
A beautiful gift for your beautiful granddaughter. Like everyone else, my heart sank when I read the title :o
Our daughter-in-law is having their second child in October and after 3 grandsons, I would dearly love a granddaughter. Having said that, if it is fit and health, what the heck :)

Just found this thread. Like everyone else I thought OH NO WHAT'S HAPPENED. Please stop scaring us all like that Wendy.
The outfit is just beautiful. How lucky is Ruby to have you as a Grandma. How you have found time to do it.......I just can't imagine. I can knit and knit very well, but crochet is something I've never learnt how to do.
Karen.......I hope you get your granddaughter.........I find it is much more exciting shopping for girlie stuff! I have two grandsons and two granddaughters, so I've very lucky indeed.

Oh Wendy - that IS beautiful. Brings back memories of when my Mom and my Auntie made doll clothes for myself and my sisters till the wee hours of the morning - especially around Christmas and birthdays. When I saw your title I knew you would not just up and leave us but I thought you were taking a well deserved holiday to be with Ruby. You should do that you know. You are a very talented lady but you need some "Wendy time".

Hi ...
I will be taking a little "Wendy time" at the beginning of September ... we are going away for a couple of days but sadly its not to see Ruby.
We are planning to visit them again in November and no doubt I will take lots more photos :)
