I had a problem with this video in the subscribers area. It's the one with the large blue S in the picture.

Using the lighting effects filter

I ran into a problem when finished. The test is locked on a background layer. I need to move my text to another image. That wouldn't be a problem if I had just one letter, but I have several letters, words even. That makes using selection tools more intense, and it makes the video a good teaching aid, but rather unpractical from an application standpoint. Is there something I'm missing?

Hi ...

If you go back to the Video you will see that the effect is done on a copy of the letter without the background. When Matt tells you to do Control J that copies the letter to the layer above and because the selection is still active then no background is copied.

Take a look at Matt's layer palette and you will see what I mean :)

Are you sure? there is a part where you merge with the background. I went back and seperated the layer, but it leaves something behind on the background.

I'm off to re-watch it now

No, I did the control J part, but I think I merged the layer with the background layer. When i go back to try and edit, I can seperate the layer from the background, but it leaves a ghost type image behind on the background layer. I think it's part of the effect of lifting the text of the screen.
