I'd really, really like to sign up for some of the on-line training courses available here, BUT I have never even been able to get the video tutorials available on here to run.:( All I ever get is the sound but no picture! I posted on here some time ago about this problem, but no one has been able to give me a solution that works to correct the problem.

My question: Are videos used for the on-line training courses also? If so, could someone please help me come up with a solution to my "no picture" problem when I play the videos? Please keep in mind that I really do need step-by-step directions; I'm not a computer beginner, but I'm certainly not in the advanced class either!:) Thanks for your help.

Hi Bernie ...

First thing is that the classes are a different format to the Vidoes in the subscriber area so you should be able to see them OK. :)

Regarding the ones in the subscriber areas ..

Have you installed the latest version of quicktime ?
... and are you able to view Videos elsewhere on the internet ?

Hi Bernie

The layers class is different than the videos in the subscriber area, but you need a fairly quick connection (non dial up) to view them. I think that is mentioned in the sign up area.

If you are still having trouble with the other videos after uninstalling and reinstalling quicktime have a look in some of the settings. I had the opposite problem you had, video but no sound. I noticed a setting for wav only in the options or prefs or whatever they call it. I turned that on and sound was fine. Turned it back off and the sound was still fine..go figure:confused:

I have QuickTime Version 7.1 on my computer. How do I uninstall this version? Do I just use the "add/remove programs" in Windows?

Yes, I can see videos elsewhere on the internet, e.g., cmt.com, youtube.com, etc., but I have no idea if I'm using the QuickTime Player. I have a feeling that I am not using QuickTime for viewing videos anywhere but on this site.

So you both think that I should be okay in signing up for the on-line training? I know it's ONLY $19.99, but I don't want to waste the money if I can't see the training videos. I do have a broadband internet connection through AT&T/Yahoo.

I shut down my Norton firewall protection but that didn't help in viewing the videos on the site. I do have a pop-up blocker; I guess it comes with Yahoo, but I don't know how to turn it off and on; it doesn't seem to be in the tray in the lower right of the screen.

Well, I went ahead and registered for an on-line course and I can watch the training videos just fine!

Still can't see the videos in the Learning Center and the Subscriber Area -- I can hear the sound fine, but absolutely no picture!

Hi ...

Oh thats great news that you can see the classes ...

Now we need to see what we can do about the Videos ... the version you have sounds like its the current one so I would try Gary's suggestion about the settings.

If all else fails then its worth uninstalling it (but we need a Windows person to tell you how to do that) then downloading a new copy of Quicktime and installing it again. That has sorted out some problems in the past :)

I also have the at&t/yahoo dsl internet and I have no problem watching any of the videos on this site. The lessons are fun and I am learning something everyday.

I am wondering about the pop up blocker. I have had to turn my off to make lots of things work. It was even stopping me from downloading fonts.

Kimi... Yeah its a pain sometimes when you forget about it.. But that just shows what a good job it does. Imagine life with all that spam in your life. Download? you mean we can download.. I have so much to learn, I cant remember the last time I worked on something that had such a steep learning curve. Now if I could just fine my memory pills..

Dee

Welcome to the forums.:) I'm sure you will like it here.

Bernie

I just did a quick look at youtubes.com the videos I watched were Flash not Quicktime. I'm not usre if they all are or not.

I would just use add/remove programs to get rid of quicktime and then reinstall, but I really have a feeling it is something else.
Have you tried letting it load all the way before hitting the play button?

Hey everybody:

Thanks for all of your suggestions! Sorry to report that I'm still not able to view the videos -- I can hear the sound, but no picture!

I did find where to disable the pop-up blocker, did that, but still no picture. My setting is for the video to begin "immediately", so I will now try to go in and change that setting. I don't think that's it, though, because I've watched the video completely load and I still have no picture.

I would really like to get the video problem corrected so that I could view all of the tutorials on this site, but right now I'm just plain excited that I'm able to view and take the on-line training courses that are available! I just started the "layers" class a couple of days ago and I'm learning so much!!!

Thanks again everyone and I'll let you know what all I've tried and how successful I've been with my video tutorial problem.
