Now that I am rolling on using PSE 4 for panoramic images, I find that there are subtle shading differences between adjacent images. How do I use the editor to place them side by side so that I can precisely adjust the lighting?

Hi there
If you are using Elements Panorama Photomerge then on the right lower side of the screen you should see an option check box that says something like keep as layers.
If you check this box, when the panorama is made each photo will remain on its own layer. Then you can change and blend separately as needed.
Also if the difference is very slight just open a blank layer at the top of you pallet and select the clone or healing brush with the use all layers option selected then blend the edge. You can use darken or lighten as modes on the clone or just reduce the opacity of the brush so you can blend easier.
Hope this helps...Butch

One bit of advice for the future.
Don't know what camera you have - depending on how much manual settings you have.
Keep your aperture setting the same for all shots - change shutter speed if needed. Different apertures will change DOF.
Set white balance to anything but auto - otherwise it will vary on each exposure.
And 3 - if you are doing this often - there are 3rd party programs that do it MUCH better - will align 6-12 pics, vertically and horizontally.

Paul, I also use a 3rd party program: PhotoVista. What programs have you found that you like?
