View Full Version : Unable to get program to run

I have used Photoshop Elements for years and recently bought Version 4.0.

It installed OK and starts running OK but then a message pops up saying that it cannot find my serial number, registration, etc. and promptly closes.

I have reinstalled this way too many times and it just does not work. I have even tried it on 2 different computers and it does the same thing on both of them.

Anyone here encountered this problem?

Thanks

Hi DCM

Welcome to the forums. :)

I haven't heard of this particular issue. There are a couple of things that do pop up with installation problems.

One this is make sure antivirus software is off (may also include firewall), you can turn it back on when installation is over.
Another thing.. make sure you are the administrator and in admin mode when installing.

I'm not saying these will fix your problem but they have helped others with installation woes.:)

Thanks for the response. I will try that method because during installations on both computers, the firewall and anti-virus programs were active.

I turned off all my programs including AVG and Zone Alarm. Photoshop Elements 4.0 worked fine on the first picture after that but this evening when I tried another, it did it again.

Guess I will have to return to Version 2.0 which will run with no problems.

Do you have a registry cleaner running in the background? I seem to remember some discussion over at the Adobe forums about one of the registry cleaners removing the registry entry with the serial number.

Hi ...

I have just had another thought .. did you install a demo verison of PSE4 first ??

If you then you need to make sure that you have removed it before you install the full version :)

The program appears to be running properly after turning off all other programs and installing the VCOM patch. I had to uninstall and reinstall Adobe before this method would work properly.

Thanks for all your responses.

Thanks to all of you for the replies. If any of you encounter this problem, it is probably caused by VCOM SystemSuite 6 which is a great product. If I had to choose between this and Adobe, Adobe would disappear but fortunately, there is a patch put out by VCOM that should cure it.

Is there a forum tool to mark this thread as solved but still leave it in place for anyone else having this problem?

Hi ...

No there isn't anything like that ... but its the first time that this problems has come up and I'm sure that we will be able to find it if it ever comes up again :)
