I'm designing a banner for a dot com. I posted a picture at pixentral which has four fonts. I wonder if you could take a moment to give it a look and tell me at first glance which you like best. Say starting at the top to the bottom, do you like 1, 2, 3 or 4....or, if you prefer, starting at the top, do you like a, b, c, or d best? See I'm easy!

Thanks so much!

and if you have any other comments such as color or background pic or the look as a whole, well, keep it to yourself.....hehe, just kidding, any input would be wonderfull

I like number 2 our B . The background looks good. Colors are good.

Hi, of the 4 choices I'd say the second one only because it is more readable in the picture. In my opinion a more solid font would stand out better or maybe see if you can't do an outline of the font in a darker color.

I like # 2 or B the best.

I agree the 2nd one. It is easier on the eyes and stands out more or is easier to see.

Thank you all so much, and I agree Kim, I plan to photoshop whichever font I use to make it standout better. So, so far we have the second in a runaway

thanks again

I have to agree on the 2nd.

I guess B for boy does it for me as well.

I like #2 as well, although the fountain in the background is a bit distracting. Why not make it simple and do something like stylize one of the letters to make it look like a fountain?

Thanks for participating Kimi and Jodi!

I like your idea phil, and I thought of something along those lines. This is just a preliminary pic to judge the font style. I plan to do a lot of cropping and altering of the background. And I'm thinking of using a small gold border around a raised font.

That sounds really nice. Please be sure to post it after you finish so we can see what you end up with.

Here's what I was thinking... (Notice the style, not the fonts)

I'm such an idiot sometimes. I saw that there were more replies, but couldn't find them until I realized they were on the next page :o

I like that idea, and the "T" would work well as a basis for making a fountain. :)

I like the fountain idea but nothing is saying furniture???? How about some of the letters looking like furniture???

hmm....actually do something that says furniture.....what a novel idea...lol

Seriously, I know what you're saying, I'm just beginning, and there will be pics of furniture on the main page. I'm thinking of a signature banner across the top of the page with navigation buttons just below. A side menu, and lots of white space with a 'special' or 'highlighted' piece of the week kind of thing. My main focus of this posting was to gauge peoples opinion of which font was the friendliest.

Thanks for all the ideas

I like the second one too ...

... looks like we all agree :)

Thanks Wendy

I'm really surprised eveyone liked the same one. How often does that happen? I looked through hundreds of fonts to pick those four, and the one eveyone picked was already installed on my 'puter. Go figure.

I guess I will be the first to disagree - if it is to be a web page banner for a business then I like a very solid bold font for the company name. The #2 font that everyone is preferring is quite formal and depending on the clientele the furniture store is looking for could be very appropriate but may not fit a more general taste. Does the water in the background denote the location or the type of retailer? If not I would go with a texture. :)

Thanks Mary. To some extent I agree, but (you knew there would be a but).....take for instance your Vegas icon. Everyone recognizes that logo, but if you were to look at it with first time eyes; it looks like a cheap highway motel sign. Yet we know Vegas has some of the most upscale hotels and restaurant in the world. You know what I saying? So, if I go with a non-descript background with a standard block font, I don't think it will create a memory sensation. As for the company itself; it sells mainly early american style furniture which is handcrafted, but also very upscale. Here is a pic which is representative of the type of furniture:

Don't take me wrong, I appreciate your input, and I don't mean to sound like I'm poo-pooing your ideas. Believe me, I'm very concious about getting to fancy smancy. As the saying goes, keep it simple stupid

I would pick #2 just because it is easier to see.

Thanks Jan!

It seems everyone has picked #2 because it's easier to see. I'm starting to agree with Mary more and more. The font needs to be bolder, more solid. i like the font, but it needs to be filled in. I think it's back to the drawing board, or as we say here, the elements palette. :)
