Hey all!

Back to school proves to be even more of a challenge to get photos but last night it rained and it got cloudy so I was like..hmmm maybe I might get a good sunset out of this..! WELL me and my girlfriend have a tradition now in where we go down and sit on the hood of my car and watch the sunset soo we went down to the local beach.. I of course brought my camera! Let me tell you I got one of the best cloudy sunset I have ever gotten in my life! Beautiful colors! Heres some pictures to let you all see how we do it down in Florida!

Out of all of them there I have to say the 2nd and the last ones are the best!

Thank you for all the support!

Hey Thomas

Glad to see you are still around.

Pixentral is a bit slow right now (or maybe it's on my end) More than likely it is everybody running to check out your photos. :D

The ones I did catch were great. :)

Hi Thomas
I am assuming those were shot from the Dunedin Causeway? Great sky, and wonderful scenery. With the kind of weather we have been having, I'm not surprised that you were able to get a great deal of activity in those rain clouds and sunset!

I hope to attain that kind of skill soon.

Well done!

Thomas,
Great sunset. Are sunsets shorter in Florida? We got back last week from 2 wonderful weeks on the south shore of Lake Superior. The afterglow and twilight lasted about 2 hours.:)

hey Tom those are really nice...Florida is always great for sunsets ! You got it down pretty good. My daughter was born in Mease Dunedin hospital...is that nearby ? We lived in Newport Richey at the time....a brief 18 months. I got alot of good shots of the big wading birds. Definitely the photographer's dream area !

Hi Jodi
Yes, Mease Hospital is right around the corner. Downtown Dunedin has had a facelift, and it's very nice. The causway and anywhere in Clearwater are great places to be for sunsets.

Thanks Ruthie...will probably never get back that way ( I know, ' never say never ' ) but I did enjoy the area. I'll have to dig out my close-up 'great blue heron' shots one of these days and scan them in...yup, pre-digital days ;) They were not afraid of people at all down there...not like up here in Upstate NY. They are so shy here...can't even get within 50 feet of them and they are off and away.

Those are wonderful and the last one is competition quality for sure. The only suggestion I have is to be sure to level the horizons. Otherwise the water may flow off the side and onto your keyboard. ;) Great work!

PS: For quick and accurate leveling without repeated rotation and guessing, see this posting on how to use the line tool to measure the angle by which the horizon is off:
http://www.photogalaxy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=347
Once you have that angle (say 2.4%) then you enter that into the image rotate command and your horizon will be spot-on.

Thomas, Great pictures . Each picture I clicked on just kept getting better. In my opinion, like everyone else, the last one is the best. Russ

Ok! Thanks guys soo much I again as you all know love taking pictures of sunsets!! Ruthie Yes is it Dunedin Causeway! i seem to get the best from there as in cloudy sunsets. I don't like clearwater for 2 reasons...People. Tourists come up going OHHH nice lense can you take a picture of me and my wife and kids.. I can't think of the angles! Another reason is its soo hazy there.. I kept on getting these hazy sunsets there and I was like ahh screw it .. The reason why i love dunedin soo much is cause its peaceful locals don't annoy me. Its soo peaceful you have time to just sit and think! I love that! Plus I don't feel like driving 30 minutes to get to clearwater when I can drive 2 to get to dunedin... To Jone. Thank you for the tip I usually level out my pictures.. These were soo pretty and I had no time cause as soon as I got home I had to leave again... I accually have a edited picture of that last one where everything is level down to the last degree! lol! Again thank you soo much guys these comments have really boosted my confidence!

Ok Thomas, I'm going to be a tacky tourist and ask you "what lens did you use".....??

I agree, the Causeway is very nice, more solitude! Ever consider Fred Howard Park? Little bit of a drive north, but many spots to capture that sunset. Mind sharing your exif data so that us 'wanna be's' can learn something????

Well Thomas I've been busy. Working on photos I took at my niece's wedding. I want to do something different to a few of the pictures and print them up for her. I've already given her the cd containing all 285 pictures I took!

I did win one other competition a few months back on 'howtocheatinphotoshop.com'. It was for baking a cake from scratch and I won the Eye Candy 5 set. Just got it last week and haven't had much time to play with it since we've been on holidays. I'm also trying to learn Corel draw x 3 so lots to do!!

Canon EF Pro Telephoto 70-200, Quantary 18-55 Wide Angle Lense both lenses were used in those pictures.. the first one was with the lense that comes with the Camera a 18-55 Wide angle lense.. and the last pictures were taken with the 70-200.. I didn't pull out the 600 cause I can pull a calidisi shot with that lense lol... and its a big lense to carry around and because of that darn lense my mono pod snapped in half cause of the weight.... if you ever have gone to sunset beach its about 50 yards south of Fred Howard.. across the water.. Thats the best spot besides the causeway to get pictures.. Fred Howard is full of screaming little kids... OH funnnn. Yea especcially the little tike that thought it was funny to take my camera bag with ALL OF MY EQUIPMENT about 6k worth of equipment in the bag and bring it back to mommy and go "MOMMY MOMMY look what I got"! I turn around bags gone I flip out. this lady comes over laughing gives me the bag and walks away.. no sorry no nothing... never again..

But yea! You should see me out at Dunedin or Sunset sometime.. Exchange info with me. I drive a Hunter Green Saturn SL2. Usually the one with the country blaring...lol.. and I am the only one that will have the big freaking lense!

Overall thank you for the comments and GREAT JOB PAULINE!!!

Thomas
