Revised question. I have two photo's in the photo bin. I am attempting to open both in the palate so that I can move one photo into the other. At present, both photo's are "background". One photo is a group of 4 persons. The other photo is the person i want to add to the group. thanks.

Just double click on the "background Layer" and a pop up will come up asking you what you want to name the layer (Default is Layer 0). Click OK, then use the move tool to click on that pick and drag it over to the other image and it will be there as a new layer.

Without seeing the photos my guess would be you would have to take the single person out and put him/her with the group.

Open the single person picture
duplicate the background layer (me being careful :))
Select the person using whatever selection tools you like
While the marching ants are marching hit CTRL+J
this will put just the selected person on a new layer
Drag the new layer to your group photo and they should all be together
you will more than likely have to resize and do some fiddling to place them but this should get you started.

Well the problem might be that it's hard to drag from one photo to the other when both are not "open" on the screen (only in the bin). So after selecting the outline you want in the source photo, hit Control-C (copy), then click on the target photo in the bin and hit Control-V (paste) and the selected portion of the source image will appear as a new layer on the target photo.

Bob,

I may not understand your question, but you can get both of the photos in your photo bin on the screen at the same time by selecting the "multi-window mode" in the right upper corner to the right of the "type a question for help" box. With both images on the screen you can use the move tool to move an entire image or a selection from an image directly to the other image.
