I have inadvertently added a set of custom shapes TWICE to my custom shapes menu. How do I remove the extra set. I don't want to take up precious space with two groups the same. ebsnapper

Hi ...
Just go into Elements look in the Presets folder and you will find the custom shapes folder ... you simply need to remove the extra set from in there. :)

Hi Wendy - There is only one .CSH file in the presets. I had one in My Documents (in the process of trying to get it loaded, I goofed) and I deleted that one (but not the single one in presets) but they are both still in the custom folder. It is interesting that they do not appear in the line up of "all elements shapes" now, but they did before. Now I have to click on them to get them. I may have to give up perfection this time, for utility. This was one of Andrew's downloads. It is the only one I have been able to load. All the rest say that Windows does not recognize his files. Does anyone you know understand how to establish a file relationship? ebsnaper

Hi ...
Have you tried closing down your computer and then doing a restart ??
Could you let me have a link to where you downloaded the shapes and I will take a look ... I'm not sure where "Andrews Downloads" are :o :o

Wendy - I have had more correspondance with Andrew Buckleof www.graphicxtras.com - Graphicxtras. is the way it comes into me. It was not until I entered his name that I found out with whom I was dealing. He had been answering my emails and giving me suggestions, and even sent a bunch more free custom shapes which I have entered into elements 4. Wendy, I found that it takes a bit of doing to enter his shapes into a PC - maybe with your MAC it would be easier. I have to open the zip files a couple of times, then right click on the file, scroll down to properties, click, and choose the option at the bottom of "unblock". Then they will open. Otherwise, Windows tells me that they are a dangerous file and will damage my computer. The following was his answer to that. It explained a lot of things to me, but in addition to what he said, I also had to do what I just told you about unblocking. Now if I could just figure out how to establish "an association for an unknown file".
Windows often throws up errors like that, it says that about GIFs or JPGs etc as well
The files are not for opening by clicking on them, you need to place the files
in the
c:\program files\adobe photoshop elements 4\presets\custom shapes folder and then you access them via Photoshop's custom shapes tool. Windows knows nothing about the format CSH and therefore assumes the worst, they are custom shapes files and the format is only recognised in Photoshop or Photoshop elements
You access them via the shapes tool / shapes palette

This is the link for the page I was looking at. Hope it works for you. ebsnapper

Wendy - I forgot to tell you - he says Photoshop Elements 4 does not have a unload like Photoshop has. This was his reply to that and I am not sure what he means by "reselecting the item from the menu should remove the others."
Hi
Photoshop comes with a replace and load command via the shapes palette but the Photoshop elements 4 doesn't have those commands, so the best way to get rid of the items is simply to select another set of shapes such as 'default' from the list or just re-selecting the item from the menu should remove the others

Hi ...
When you are installing Custom Shapes in Elements all you need to do is unzip the file (if they download zipped) and then place the .csh file in Elements.
Just close down Elements then open your Elements folder ... find the Folder marked Presets ... in that there is a folder marked Custom Shapes. Just put them in there ... there is no need to do file associations ...
Next just restart Elements ... and the custom shapes will show up ...
Just try it that way and see how you go on :)

I didn't get your message until today, but yes, I found that worked, and I do, in fact, have the shapes where they belong. Including some more that he sent to me. I LOVED your expression "see how you go on". I haven't heard that in many years. Thanks for the help. I am going to put a new thread on the forum. My daughter is having problems with her photoshop elements and her camera. She has a relatively new Dell with which she has had a tremendous number of malfunctions. Dell has helped with most of them, I guess once in a while they actually do put our a bummer. Mine has been so perfect, I tend to forget that. Anyway, she said at first there was no problem, it loaded them ok. Now it "does not detect" her camera. I am going to do some looking on my own, but thought I would throw it out there for help in the meantime as I may not come up with an answer. She is in Virginia and I am in New Mexico so I can't just run over and help. ebsnapper

Hi ...
So pleased that you now have it sorted out :)
... its funny how different expressions are used in different countries, must admit that I don't use it very often nowadays.

Wendy - the expression we picked up from many summers on Vancouver Island, CAnada was "eh" at the end of everything. We still use it today. Here in New Mexico it is a bit odd.
I got my daughter straightened out and back on track. She had apparently not set the automatic detection correctly or had inadvertently changed it. I never did put it on the forum as we worked it out together. ebsnapper
