re- lesson 18 restoring photos w/blend modes

I watched this lesson and wondered why you would go through all that when you can go to Enhance > Adjust Lighting > Levels and move the white slider to the left to get a pretty much perfect picture? I am relatively new to PHE but I have learned that tip from the weekly help videos. Is it just to see which direction the various blend mode take you?

Hi Leslie ...

Doing it using blend modes makes it much more flexible as you can then do on to do adjustment like lowering the opacity of the layer, erasing or masking out area that don't need as much adjustment and various other adjustment. Plus when you are working its actually a lot quicker to do it this way :)

Also try it out ... duplicate an image, have them both on screen at the same time and then try it both ways. You will see that the effect is quite different ...
