I'm having difficuly with customized Tags & tag icons.....

I've customized my Tags icons, using the Tag pallette, to include a small photo within the Tag icon. But then when I assign that Tag to a photo, all that Adobe shows assigned to that photo is the Tag icon shape, not the Tag shape and the photo I assigned within the Tag.

For example; within the People category I've created a subcategory Tag for my son, John, and named the Tag "John" .. the Tag icon shape is of "people", then I assigned a small photo of my son to the Tag I just created.

So now within the Tags to choose from, I have a Tag named "John" with an Icon shaped liked People and within this icon shape is a small photo of my son, John. All looks to be working great.....

However, when I assign this Tag to a photo, all that appears with the Tagged photo is the Tag icon shape of people......the little photo of John within the icon is not displayed. When I move my mouse pointer over the Tag it does indicate it is the "John" tag, but I would like to see a visual cue that it is indeed the "John" tag and not have to fuss with mousing over each Tag to see that I've properly tagged a photo.

Page 73 of the Users Guide for EL-4 shows examples of the functionality I seek - a photo with multiple customized Tags and within each Tag is a custom photo.

This would be pretty slick to see this work the way I describe. It would make reviewing the tagged photos much easier

Thank for any help or direction.

It sounds like I have exactly the same setup you do people with picture tags at the bottom level of the “People” tree. And.... I have the same result no pictures, just the Icon on the photo. In my case this never bothered me, I just figured that this was the way it worked. Maybe someone has a suggestion but in the mean time, might consider turning on the properties palate and setting it to show tags. This will show what the tags are when you click the picture (still no cute picture though). Better tahn nothing :-)

I see what you mean about that picture on p73 of the User Guide. I don't know of any way to do that. In single photo view you should at least see the name of the Tag (in your case "John") next to the People category icon at the bottom of the thumbnail as long as you have Details turned on which is a visual way to check if you have the right tags applied.

The alternate way is to make "John" a new category rather than a new tag in the People category. Might be worth considering if you have a lot of "John" pictures. Then an icon for the "John" category would show. But you'd have to make your own icon and the catch is they have to be 20x20 pixel in size (saved as png files and stored in the Shared Assets/Caticon folder) and 20x20 doesn't allow for much detail (to be able to distinguish a face for example).

Go to Edit > Preferences > Tags and Collections. There you can choose how the Tag Icon is displayed.

Go to Edit > Preferences > Tags and Collections doesn't appear to have any effect on the tag that is under the picture. It appears to only work on the tag as it is displayed in the tag menu tree.

Sorry, I thought you meant the ones in the Tag Palette. Those under the images in the Photo Well are just the Category Icons. You can make your own. They're just PNG format images stored in the Elements Program Folder under Shared Assets > Caticons.
