I have found this video on how to make patterns using the wave filter.

I could never make heads nor tails of what to apply it to.

Have a look and see if this will help all or any of you scappers. :)

That's like Christmas!:D Thanks so much. I watched the video and while it is for PS it looks like there is nothing that can't be done in Elements.

I have tried it and the technique seems to work with Elements. I have just never spent the time to figure out how to plan what the look wll be.

I'm not much of a scrapper so it never seemed to be something I would use. Mind you after seeing all the wonderful things you guys create my interest was piqued. :)

It looks like Robyn and Nancy could. I just tried, but of course I can't remember my login (not using my main comp right now) soI can't tell if there is a problem.

Last time I tried to download something I ended up calling them. Never could get it to work. I have decided they hate me. :( :(

Kimi,

Sorry to hear you are having problems. It worked okay for me.

Hopefully when I get back on the other comp., I won't have the same problem

Maybe I am doing something wrong?? I am going to save target as. Directing to my desktop. When I look at the desktop all I get is an INTERNET e, sending me to a page with directions. If I try and download directly into Elements it sends me straight to the same page. ??????

I have a folder for downloads and I use that for 'save target as'. I never use the desktop. After it's in that folder and unzipped, then I would put brushes etc. into elements.

I loaded the layer styles and the patterns, but can't view the video/tutorial, so I don't know what to do with these. I can't open the .wmv file (maybe because I'm on a Mac?). Anyway, anyone want to give me just a little hint of how the styles work or what they're for? When I click on them, they fill the layer with that pattern . . . is that all there is to it?

Thanks.

Sorry, I never thought about the video being in .wmv... that is really the meat of the download. I actually had forgotten that there were styles/patterns with the download.
What type of format can you watch? I can see if there is a convertor or something to change it for you.

I tried both ways. Same thing as before. :( I give up.

Make some pretty things and show us.:)

The video actually teaches you how to make the patterns. It's unbelieveable how easy it is to do. I know some people here have the software to convert videos. I'm pretty sure that Norm has one that allows different export options.

Oh, thanks guys. I have Quicktime 7. If it can be converted I'd be grateful. If, however, it's a "pain" to do, don't worry about it.

With Camtasia it can be converted and saved as a Quicktime file. I only downloaded a sample version and mine has expired but there are a few here who have the full version. Hopefully someone will give it a go.

OK, I think I did it. :) I watched the video at least. pretty cool. I need to write down some of the filter settings. Not really sure if I saw the styles???
I did add them to my styles. Thanks Gary. :D

Gary, thanks so much for the link. I downloaded the links this morning & spent a couple of hours making patterns (I used colors from all my scrapbook & card kits, and did some for the holidays). I experimented by rotating a layer, then applying the filter a 2nd time & sometimes it looked great. This afternoon I was completing my latest kit for the scrapbook exchange (Black & White) & wanted to do a ribbon. I went to the patterns & discovered I'd inadvertently deleted them all, apparently by clicking reset by accident!!! :(  BooHooHoo-Sob-Snort ARGGGGGG

Yeah! I finally figured out how to get the pattern's installed.

But I'm only seeing 15 patterns not the 50 advertised and I can't get the styles to show up.... I'm wondering if they just won't work with PSE3?

Robyn

Jane I have PSE3, and it works okay.

There are only 15 styles and 50 patterns. But honestly I wouldn't be too fussed about it. It is the video that I think is valuable. After watching it you can create any of these patterns in a blink of an eye.

How is it working out for you?

I still have to try to get that video converted for Linda. (I have been looking for a convertor..honest Linda :))

Hi Gary,

I haven't bothered much with it. But it is another interesting 'thing' to know about and store away when needed. :)

My trouble is I store 'things' away in my mind, but unfortunately the brain doesn't always retain info as well as it did a few years back. Certainly if it is something that really interests me and I use it, I will retain it, but if it is something that I file away for future use, well..........!!:D

Robyn

I know what you mean .. of course recalling it is always the problem :D

As an example, I've had that video for maybe a year now (not sure.. but a while) and I keep running across it whenever I am cleaning junk off my hard drive. I open it, say oh yah this one, close it, and don't find it again until the next cleaning.

Figured I would post it and maybe somebody else will have better luck. It was actually the exchange thread that got me thinking about it being used for backgrounds.

Thanks Gary,

Looks interesting!

PSE has so many things to play with and I have so little time!!! :(

If you find a link to add extra hours to a day, I'd like that one!!! :D
