In the attached picture I want to change the color of the background BUT I do not want to lose the texture of the current background. I have managed to extract my granddaughter from the picture using lasso tool, selection brush, and layers, and then change the color of the background but in so doing I lost the texture of the current background. One problem I am having is that in the picture the current background and the color of the dress are so similar that Photoshop is having great difficulty in distinguishing one from the other. Can someone provide me some suggestions? I am very new to Photoshop Elements so I will need some detailed help. Thanks

Hi Barry ...
OK so you have her copied onto a new layer above you image ...
Then go to the layers palette, click on the backgroung layer and then do Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Hue & Saturation ... tick colourize and move the sliders until you like the effect.
Do let us know how you go on :)
