View Full Version : lost my pictures

I feel like an idiot. I have lost my pictures for the layers classes. I backed up my photoshop to a disc and foolishly deleted the pictures from the hard drive. I have succeeded in salvaging about 6 or 7, but can't find the rest. The folders in My pictures say they are empty - the pictures are in Photoshop, but I can't find where they "reside". I can use them from Photoshop, but I wanted to be sure I had them someplace permanent - this isn't making sense. They are NOT in the folders they used to be in - so if they do not "reside" in Photoshop Elements 4, - where are they besides on the disc. I do not have to insert the disc to use them, the pictures in Photoshop do not have a disc in the corner, (which means I have succeeded in getting them back onto the harddrive) but WHERE ARE THEY? I ran a search and it shows only the 6 or 7 that I got into My Pictures in a folder. Where are the rest of them? Is there any way - now that the class is closed - that I can get the pictures again without paying for another class? What a mess. ebsnapper.

Just to clarify-Photos are not really saved in Photoshop-it merely acts a window to view your pictures on the hard disk. What you are likely seeing in the Organizer is the thumbnail view; it will remain even if the file is deleted until you do a File>Reconnect>Missing or delete the thumbnail from Organizer.
Are the images still on the disk? Is yes, can you just make a new folder and load them back on the hard drive? You could then do a File>Reconnect>Missing Files to link the thumbnails back to this folder.
Hope this helps.

If you can see them in Organizer go Window>Properties. The location of the file shows on the General tab.

Thanks loads you-all. Started with your suggestions (I did know that the pictures were not actually IN PHOTOSHOP-I just couldn't figure out WHERE they were) and went from there. It took a lot of copying, pasting, dragging, etc. but I finally got a good, clean folder, with each day's pictures where they belonged and have made sure they all load as they should. It has taken me two evenings of work, but it is worth it to have things as they should be and not scattered all over. I am still not sure just how it all came about, but as long as it worked, that is all that matters. Everything works WITHOUT the disc being in, so that is good. I have everything IN the computer, and also on a disc which was what I wanted to do. I appreciate the leads and guidance. Forums are great, aren't they - especially when people out there care enough to answer a call of distress. ebsnapper PS - those layers classes were wonderful, weren't they? It was worth it to record and then type off all that verbage on the videos - I now have a record of his neat tips and helpful hints. That REALLY took time.
