When I try to do the lesson, everytime I type in "Pool Party" I get a separate layer for each word or both words come out on one line. I can't figure out how to have "Pool" above "Party" without it being 2 layers.

You have to set the "Leading" to around 35, so the words won't be so far apart. Pool should be above Party, (two lines). Matt did not explain this in his video. Look in the Options bar and you will see two letter A's with an up and down arrow. Put 35 in that box. If you pause Matt's video you can get his exact number input.

Hi Dorrie,
Thank you for your reply. I'm still doing something wrong. What do I do after typing "Pool" to get "Party" to show up under "Pool"? The only way I can get it to work is to type "Pool" and hit enter then move my cursor below it and type "Party". That, however, makes a layer for "Pool" and a separate layer for "Party". I hope I explained this right. It's probably something really simple but I just can't get it.

Jm,
There is a way to make a selection and type in that area. Once the selection is made, it acts like a text box and you can use the centre option. Sorry I can't remember exactly how it is done (:o) but I am sure someone be along shortly to fill in the details.

Hi ...
Have you tried hitting the Return key after the first word ... when I do that on the Mac it moves one line down for the next text :)

Maybe I'm not following- but once you select the T for the text layer, did you then make a box for your text layer? That will then allow you to type the words "Pool party" but if you size your box right, then the word party will automatically go on the next line.
Let us know- one of us can post a screen shot if it doesn't make sense.

Kay,
Do just as Wendy said, Type the word Pool, hit the Enter Key, then type the word Party. At that point you will probably notice that the words have a big separation between them, instead of being very close to each other. It that is the case, then follow my instructions for changing the Leading.

Thanks to you all. I don't quite know what I was doing wrong but it seems to be working now.

Oh that is good news ..
When you get a chance to try out the techniques on your own images ... do let us see some of them :)
