For those participating - perhaps you would like to share some of what you do with the other people's pages. Here is one for Kay. It is HOT HOT HOT here today so I thought it would be appropriate to cool off with her winter set.

Thanks, Wendy! When I saw all the ones people have made I felt like I was cheating being part of this group. I am really looking forward to trying all of them- that could keep us all busy for awhile! And, it's good to try to create all the bits- I sometimes skimp on extras in my collages, so this is good practice!

Karen, I think you need a "2" in "The of us". Otherwise, looks pretty good. You might also want to add a date (some people only do a year, some people a month/year and others the full date) in a corner.

I like the pink and green. You asked for an honest opinion so...............I'd actually like to see your photo enlarged a bit so it takes up more of the page and that is the focus rather than what surrounds it. :)

Karen
That's much better - I like the larger picture. Isn't it funny how we can make our eyes see what our brain thinks we see? I've done the same thing.

Honestly - I really like it. If I were doing it i would probably make the picture fill the "frame" around it but that's just me and my taste. It does look really good the way you have it too so if you're happy with it then that's what counts. The nice thing about scrapbooking I'm finding is the individuality you can express. That's what's cool about this exchange and sharing your work - you see the same thing from two different perspectives.

Hi Vesta ...

If you go to the Subscriber area Scrapbooking section then you will find some tuts I did ... making patterns from lines is one of them. I think that making a pattern for that effect is wasier than trying to line up all the lines.

Then you just do Layer>New Fill Layer Pattern, when you have the scale right then ... merge it down and there is your lined paper :)

Robyn,

Yes I do like it much better than the first one. I searched unsucessfully for hours looking for the originally CD (I have put away ever so carefully), so I have had to us an oval cropped version of the image.

Nancy,

Thank you, yes I prefer the 2nd one. Scrapbooking is something entirely new to me and because I am not really artistic, I am finding it very difficult. I have a friend who sells all the traditional bits and pieces and most of what I have seen has (in my opinion) way too much "stuff" on the page which detracts from the photo :D

Karen

I too prefer clean lines and not a lot of doodads distracting from the photo. But then again I'm pretty much a "plain Jane" in real life too. :)

Karen - I think version two looks better.

Robyn

Oh that looks great Nancy. I would never have thought of doing diagonal papers.......that's my trouble......I don't think, I rely on everyone else for inspiration!:(

It's great to see what other people do with your stuff. I'm halfway through using yours on my grandparents' wedding photo. That lace and those colours was just begging to be used on this sepia photo. I'll post it here later.

Thanks Robyn,
I sometimes fall into a trap of using the same layouts over and over with different papers but I'm trying to do something different so I gave this a go. I was happy with it. I can't wait to see the Grandparents layout you are doing. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Robyn
August 12th, 2006, 02:20 AM
Nancy.......I've finished it.

I liked it so much I've put it in my gallery. Mind you that was about the 4th version.

Finally after trying to include more of this and more of that, I settled for simplicity just using a few of the elements, which is more me anyway.

And besides that, the paper is just so beautiful that it can stand by itself anyway. I had 'fun' making the lace frame. I did straighten the lace up slightly with the sheer filter, but I like the way it's not quite square, I think it is more in keeping with the era.

Here is my cake page (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/view_img.php?id=11022). This one I really struggled with. I wanted something somewhat masculine for my dad mixed with the feminin for my neice. It didn't turn out too bad in the end but I lost count of failed attemps on this one. KIT(s) = Nancy's Burgundy & Olive Paper + Nita's Aphrodisiac Embellishments
NOTE: I envisioned this as a journal cover. Nancy, I used the Kaleidoscope filter on the paper, then used embellishments from one of my kits. If you're wondering what the lines are on the 5 embellishments, it's my feeble attempt to make it appear as if they are 2 pcs (hinged on the underside).

Robyn, it's interesting to try portions of an embellishment/paper & see what happens. Love the green lacy ribbon!

Nancy, thanks. I, too, hope we can keep it going. As long as everyone continues to submit at least one kit a month, I'm more than happy to place them in the gallery.

I wish we could convince more people to get involved - if they realized that the kits could be used for card designs perhaps those who aren't into scrapping might be interested.

Have fun ladies. I will be on vacation this week. Not sure that is a great idea. When it rains it pours, my manager just dropped a bomb shell on me this afternoon that I am very likely to be affected in the coming resource action. So I'm not sure how much I will be around if I need to start looking for new employement. With several each year it was only a matter of time.

Kay, I make calendars for family & friends too. Do you (or anyone else) have a 2007 calendar the size of the one on page 3 of my SmugMug Gallery? I print them 2-up on 8x10. When I did the 2005 version I scanned a generic calendar & used it as a template, retyping the dates, then deleting the template & adding my background & photo.

If anyone has a high resolution scanned version, would you e-mail it to me? THX!
