First off - I think I am in the right place for this question. If I am not, let me apologize in advance for being a newbie to this forum.

Here is what I wanted to do and here is what I did.

I wanted to make JUST AUDIO and "link" it to a still clip. Since I did not see any "capture" just for audio, I made a movie with logitech and used the add elements to bring it in to my project. After putting this new clip in the timeline, I used the "alt" key to seperate the audio and visual. Finally I put the audio right under the still clip and shoved the video portion far to the right - to worry about later.

Okay - there may have been a better way to do the above, but that was the only way that I could think of. Now here is my problem.

1) Ideally, I would like to delete the video part of the clip that I imported and just go on my merry way - and not have to worry about it later.
2) I would like to "link" the audio portion to the still clip - So I could just move it as one
3) Since I haven't figure out how to do 2) I am running into all sorts of problems when I try to move the still clip and then the audio immediatly after - so as to keep them "linked"

Any suggestions?

I have not yet dealt with this issue before, but here are some ideas for you to develop.

If you go to Premiere Elements 2.0 Help, you will find a writeup on "To link and unlink video and audio clips". Great. Thank works fine if Video 1 track is video and Audio 1 track is audio. But, when Video 1 track has stills and Audio 1 track has audio, the Link (or Unlink) Audio And Video option in the Clip menu is faded out.

HOWEVER, under that same Clip menu is "Group". Try selecting and grouping your stills on Video 1. Then with the Video 1 stills group selected, select the Audio 1 audio so that both audio and the grouped stills are selected at the same time. Then go back to the Group menu and Group. I tried this on a limited scale, and it seems to work.

I need to do more homework on link versus group.

As for unwanted video on Video 1, have you tried selecting the unwanted video, right clicking the selection, and going with delete, fill gap?

Okay that seemed to work - but like you, the difference between "group" and "link" escapes me. I hope that I am not missing something dangerous that will haunt me later. A related problem/question. To put a still "on top of" an audio, I first have

1) see how long the audio is in the time line then
2) put the still into the clip area and use "In" and "Out" to "enlongate" the still
3) move the clip into the time line above the audio.

Is there and easier - and less error prone - way to do this?

Thank you very much for your help BTW - I don't think I ever would have found group - as I wasn't looking for it!

This is another idea for you to develop. I am not saying it is THE way, but it works for me.

Stills on Video 1
Audio on Audio 1

If audio X in the Timeline is longer than stills, I would just use the cursor to move audio X to left (contract) to fit under stills in Video 1.

If audio X is shorter than Stills, I would bring the audio X down again from Media Panel, and put it next to audio X that was already on the Timeline. Then fit audio to stills as previously mentioned.

I find that I get into problems (sound distortions) when I use Time Stretch feature and/or try to stretch the audio with the cursor, even if it lets me do that.

I'm not sure I follow this. If I decrease **audio** wont I loose information? Or will it make the person sound like s/he is talking faster?

What I described in my last post has worked for me with stills in Video 1 and music in Audio 1.

As I just learned from your last post, your audio includes voices not just the music that I have dealt with. That put a whole new angle on this. Yes, if done as "what worked for me", you will lose voice information and synchronizing the audio with the stills becomes one of the major issues. I have not gotten involved in any of that yet.

I tried to round up some reading material for you as well as myself. It is just a quick start.

The Adobe web site at http://www.adobe.com includes a User to User Forum for Premiere Elements. There is no charge to register. Once you register you can view, post topics, and respond to topics. The site is viewed by more people who do video/audio interaction on a routine basis. You might consider visiting that site and posting your question there. You should get a quick as well as sound (no pun intended) response.

While you are doing all that, I will be working out the how to details of this topic to incorporate in my further projects. I had not needed it previously, but your post got me thinking about it.

Please post the outcome.

Well - your first link (no pun intended) shows how to link and unlink audio and video. It seems to work with two, but not with three (video 1, video 2 and audio 1). I was able to group three. I have concluded for the time being that group is just link for more than 2.

My results for audio and stills: Pretty much like I described in a previous post. I make a video with audio. I bring the video in and just keep the audio (delete the video track). I put the audio in first, then resize the still to fit the audio. Then I link using the method in your link above.

It would be nice if elements had a way to just record an audio, so I wouldn't have to resort to the above kludge, but hey.
