Unable to open Help menu

I have PSE 3 which is working fine except that I am unable to open the help menu. When I try to open help a button appears on the taskbar but the menu just will not appear. Is the only solution reinstalling PSE3? Will this affect my current catalogue?

Charis,

Try this before you re-install. Go Help>Photshop Elements Help. When the help centre loads, ensure that Photoshop Elements is selected from the 'procuct help for" menu. Here's a screen shot for you to refer to:

This program defaults to help for the "Adobe Help Centre" which has very little information. Hope that works for you. I have PSE4 and I'm not sure if they're the same.

I fixed this by right clicking the help button on the task bar and clicking restore. Hope it works for you.

In case nothing else works to solve the problem, try closing some of the programs operating in the background.

Many thanks for the replies. 'Restore' was greyed out on the task bar, so I tried 'maximise' and that did the trick. Once I had opened it that way I was able to open it again from the menu bar at the top of the screen, unlike before. Even F1 works, now it has remembered it has a help menu. I have been managing without the help function for longer than I care to admit.
