With several tools, I'm getting double icons. This happens with hand tool, eyedropper, cropping, paint bucket. I suspect that there should be only 1 icon - how do I change this? I'm been all over these forums and the help tool but can't find anything. Thanks!

Which PSE are you using? Ver 3 or 4 or someother?
When wierd things happen you can try resetting tools -- click on a tool that gives you a double cursor and then at the top of the work area there should be an ICON for reset tools. Lets try that first.
If it doesn't work then we'll take it to the next level.

Will - I am using PSE4. Tried what you suggested - still seeing double!

OK now we try the next thing when things go wierd (sp).
Shut down elements then click on the editor ICON -- right away and be quick, hold down the following three keys SHIFT, ALT & CTRL you should get a question about resetting preferences or some such message -- click yes. IF that doesn't fix it we'll try another approach.

The question that comes up is "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?" Just want to confirm that I should answer Yes to that.
Thanks, Barb

Barb, Will seems to be off line right now (Blue Light by Name-off line; Green Light by Name-on line).
Yes, that is the standard message Will was referencing. Answer yes and the file will be rebuilt.

Ward - thanks for the clues on the green and blue lights. I did answer yes to that question. There's still 2 of those icons there. I'll keep searching for some answers!
Thanks,

Will, I see you are back on-line. I'm going to leave myself. Not sure what to try next, but I am sure you will figure it out (no pun intended!).

OK -- one more thing to try and that is REBOOT the computer -- it sometimes fixes things as well.
Don't really want to go for a re-install just yet!

Hi Barb ...
If you are still having problems then post a screen shot ... that may help us identify what is wrong :)

Hi Barb, welcome to the forum.
I hope you were able to resolve the double icon issue?

Still seeing double! I've had this issue for several weeks so re-booting doesn't help. I saw Wendy's note about posting a screenshot - now, I'm going to reveal just how much of a rookie I am - how do I do that? I will have to try it at home - I'm at work right now.
Thanks,
Barb

Hi Barb ...
If you are using a Windows PC then use PrintScreen (for full screen) or
Alt - PrintScreen for current front screen.
Then resize your image using "save for web"
Set the longest side to 750 pixels and click on Apply
then adjust the quality slider until the image is around 150K.
and save it with a new name.
Next go to
http://www.pixentral.com/index.php
Follow the instructions on the site and then when your image is uploaded copy the URL from just above the image and paste it into a message here :)

To get the screen print into PSE use NEW FILE from Clipboard -- it'll create a file that you can then apply Wendy's instructions.

When I hit printscreen, it looks like something is going to the clipboard, and when I keep going with Wendy's instructions, I'm saving just the current photo, not the screen with the double icons.

After you print screen you need to follow Will's instrucions first - File>New from Clipboard. Then you should have your screen in Elements and you can save that image for the web.

Thanks, Tony. I tried it but the clipboard file does not show the icons. When it's being saved to the clipboard, the two icons turn into 1 hourglass icon. So I don't think I can get a screen shot of the two icons.

I think the next step is to uninstall and re-install the program? I don't use Organizer for my photos - have my own system set up under My Pictures. I don't believe I did any customizing of PSE4 itself, so should this be a simple thing to do? I've seen some posts here call for "repair" re-install. Is that something I should try first?
Thanks, Barb
