I just came from a friend's anniversary party where I took over 60 photos. The problem I have is that many of them had to be taken with window light coming from the right side. Therefore, the left side of the photo is darker than the right. I thought I remembered a way to lighten only part of a photo but I can't find the thread. Can somebody help me....or tell me I dreamed it so I can quit looking? Thanks.

Hi Carol,
You might try making a selection of the dark area then lighten as necessary and flatten the image. Hope this helps. I'm sure the gurus here have another, easier way to do it. Good luck.

Hi Carol you could use a levels adjustment layer and correct it. Then use the mask to paint with black and block out where you don't need the adjustment. Use a large soft brush so that it feathers in the change.

I often find using Shadows/Highlights works well as a first step in case like this. It often works best when you follow up with a Levels adjustment layer which, as Pauline says, you can then fine tune by painting or applying a gradient on the mask. Why not post an example image so we can take a look and maybe have some other suggestions.

Hi Carol ...

Another way is to duplicate your image ... set the layer blend mode to screen. Then use a mask or an eraser to remove the areas that are too light :)

... but as Tony said it would be easier if you posted one so that we could see how dark/light they are :)
