A friend wants to burn/author DVDs after making a slide show with Elements. Can anyone recommend some software that will let him do this - other than Premiere Elements?
Something basic would suit him.

Colin,
I have had success saving the slideshow to a .wmv file, and then burning a DVD from that file. I have the DVDs to prove it.
Regretfully, I do not recall whether my success was with Sonic MyDVD or Nero... but I suspect it was with Sonic.
I only made a couple of discs that way prior to purchasing Premiere Elements, so have not done this recently enough to be certain without some experimentation to jog my memory... I'm a card-carrying CRS sufferer!
If no one else turns up with a sure answer, I'll figure it out for you.

Colin,
I have successfully done this using Nero....& I am a complete newcomer to the world of burning CDs & DVDs, yet I found it very easy to do.

Before investing in any software, check out what software came with the DVD/CD writer.
If it is playback on the TV/DVD player that you are after, then you are looking for a software that will convert the wmv slideshow into a DVD-Video (MPEG2). My DVD/CD writer came bundled with Record Now as well as Arc Soft Show Biz DVD 2 which can create and/or author the slideshow.
Nero OEM came with my CD writer. And, it is an very good multi purpose program.
If possible, use a tryout of the software before buying to avoid any unexpected problems after a purchase.

Byron...similar question - any specific version of MyDVD

...Byron...similar question - any specific version of MyDVD...Colin,
I am unable to report specifically right now, but will do so when I am at that machine again. In any case, it is the OEM version which came pre-loaded when I bought the Toshiba laptop new, a bit over a year ago.

Colin,
It came bundled with the DVD writer, version 6 I think. There's an option to upgrade to 7, but at the moment it's coping with what I want to do.

With regard to Nero OEM,
If that came bundled with your DVD/CD writer, check for updates at http://www.nero.com or through your updater in that program. Updates are free, upgrades are not.
Nero is the only one of my burning softwares on my computer that really updates. The others consistently give you "no update available".
If I recall, Nero that is sold is up to version 7. My Nero OEM that came with my CD Writer is now up to 6.6 with the latest updates.

Colin,
Reporting back to confirm that I am, indeed, pitiful when it comes to recalling something I may have done more than five minutes earlier...
The app with which I burned .WMV files to DVD was the OEM version of Nero which came bundled with my external LiteOn DVD writer about 1.5 years ago. Version 6.3.1.1
Sorry for the earlier mangled information.
