Hello,
I am using Elements 4.0 with the Nvidia plugin for .DDS files in an attempt to create a .DDS file with a transparent background.
I create a new file with a transparent background which appears as a grey and white checkerboard. I then open my source image, use the magic wand to select my black line art (it is a black and white image), copy it, and paste it into the blank image. It looks great and you can see the checkboard background.
If I save it, I am given choices for an encoding format which include DXT1 and DXT3 which say they have alpha information. I believe that alpha means transparent.
If I save it with either option and reload it, the checkboard is replaced with a white background. I've tried a couple of times to just use it in my application (Oblivion) to see if it worked and the white background showed up.
This is an effort at game modding which constrains me to use the .DDS format for my textures.
Is there something about Elements that does not allow an alpha channel to be saved? I see the term alpha "channel" when I google for a solution to this problem. Elements does not appear to have a "channels" option anywhere.
Thanks.
