My lovely wife and I enjoyed a motorcycle ride to the Olympic Mountains this past weekend. On Huricane Ridge we came face to face with this cute deer.

Here's a shot of some of the other Olympics from Hurican Ridge.

Cool shots Norm. Looks like you got pretty darn close to the deer.

Norm,

Love the shot of the deer. Also like the mountain shot with just a hint of the moon in the sky.

A motorcycle ride to the mountains! I can't think of anything I'd like better right now. Two great pics Norm.

Hey all - thanks for the comments. I was probably 50 yards from the deer, using the 75-400mm lens. I was standing on the side of a slope which gave me a good angle on it.

Nice shot, Norm. I love the Olympic Pen. I've gone hiking a few times to a place called the Mildred Lakes. Tough hike, good fishing, lots of bugs. On one trip, a doe wandered through our camp in the middle of the night and just about hung herself on our spider web of rope holding the tarp above our tent. It was about 2 am, and I didn't have a camera. And even if I did I wasn't getting out of bed. :)

You were 50 yards away?!?!! Wow. I've got to start saving pennies for a DSLR...

Thanks Betsy! I was just patient with the deer. I kept creeping closer while focusing the whole time and waited for it to take notice of me. A little later on another one nearly ran me over as it made its way from the meadows to the woods. Unfortunately I couldn't get my camera to my face and focused fast enough to get decent pictures of that one. It didn't help that my wife was yelling "he's running right at you". :D Duh! I can see him (as I'm almost laid out on the ground).

Norm. Fantastic pictures! I just love that part of our county. I plan on going back [up there] in a few months. Last time we were in that area we were lucky to get several pictures of a wolf that was on the side of the road [hunting?]. I didn't get out of the van--wolf's get a lot of respect from me. Sadly, that was before I started backing up my pictures and I lost those photos [among others] when my hard drive crashed. Russ
