View Full Version : "add media" keeps installing acrobat 5.0

I have tried reinstalling "Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0" three times now. When I click on the "Add Media" and select "From DVD Camera or Removable Drive" it starts unpacking Acrobat Reader 5.0 then gives me the option to install it. I've let it install Acrobat Reader 5.0 over and over - it doesn't seem to register that it is already on my computer......

Has this happened to anyone else?

I've tried things like uninstalling Adobe Reader and Adobe Premiere and reinstalling. I've taken my anti-virus off for installation and I've defragmented my hardrive.

Hi,

I do not know if I have an answer for you, but here are some thoughts.

First, a question...do you have a flatbed scanner attached to your computer? If so, try getting the Media Downloader to work if you disconnect the scanner.

Next, take a look at Preferences, Device Control...is it set at DV/HDV Device Control; Preroll 2 seconds; TImecode Offset 0 frames? None of the other Preferences there looks like it would have any affect.

Why are you using the Media Downloader..to get media from DVD Camera, removable drive, scanner...?

In my Premiere Elements 2.0, when I select "Add Media" and then "from DVD Camera or Removable Drive", the large Adobe Premiere Elements Media Downloader opens. On the right 1. Get Media from, Select Device... 2. etc.
Have you ever gotten to see this dialog? In 1 in the Select Device drop down list will be all recognized devices...in my case, I just have my flatbed scanner. When I put a InCD disc in the CD drive, then the list includes the InCD drive location on this list (as removable drive).

Depending on your situation, I would disconnect the scanner, if you have one
(or whatever you see in that drop down list, if you get that far). Insert a CD or DVD into the appropriate drive and try to add Media from this disc to Premiere Elements using the downloader.

I have never seen the problem that you describe. I have seen reports of Adobe 6 scanner problems...but maybe my speculation is off base?

I do have a flatbed scanner. I disconnected it but it did the same thing. I am uninstalling and reinstalling leaving the scanner disconnected - maybe that will help. I did load the software onto my laptop and the "Add Media" feature works there fine.....so it definately has to be a problem with the way my desktop is configured.

Yeah, I never get past the "From DVD Camera or Removable Drive" - clicking that feature just immediately launches the Acrobat Reader 5.0 Installer (and why 5.0 when 7.0 is the version on the CD) - it's really bizarre! I am trying to get video off a dvd in the drive.....it's a homemade dvd with no copywrite protection on it.

Thank you for your time and insight. If this reinstallation works I will update my success here.

If other routes do not work for your Desktop, here is a possible "going in the back door" that may or may not work.

I am assuming you have a DVD disc (DVD-Video Format).
Insert DVD into DVD drive
Open Premiere Elements 2.0
Go to "Add Media" and select "From Files and Folders"
From that location, go to (browse to) DVD drive
You will see 2 folders there: one named Open DVD, the other VIDEO_TS.
Hightlight VIDEO_TS, open it and all its contents
You will get a message "Importing File from Removable Media"
Next you will see the Media Downloader dialog that you have been trying to get.
See if you can work it from here. Hopefully, you will end of up what you wanted in the Media Panel.
