I am having trouble with slide show. I have captions on all of my pictures but only some are showing up. The ones that I put on more recently are not showing up. I tried using other things in creations and all of the captions show up. Its just slide show that is not working. Help!

This is just a wild guess.

By any chance, are you making a Simple Slideshow (PDF) or a Custom Slideshow? The captions will not appear in the Simple Slideshow, but will in the Custom Slideshow. What kind of a Slideshow were you making when you said the captions worked?

I am assuming that you are just at the Preview stage of the Slideshow. So, even more remote possibility, do you have the zoom in high so that it is cutting off the caption at the middle bottom when you Preview?

If neither, I will rethink the whole matter.

Um, what is the difference between Custom and Simple? And its not that all the captions work sometimes and then they don't its tha the pictures that I applied captions to a few days ago work and the ones that I applied yesturday don't.

Hi,

When you go from the Organizer to Create and click on Slideshow, you are given the choice of Custom Slideshow or Simple Slideshow. The Custom Slideshow allows you a lot more options (captions being one) than the Simple Slideshow (no captions). The Simple Slideshow ends up saved as a PDF. The Custom Slideshow ends up as a Creation saved in the Organizer or converted to a wmv file to be saved wherever. But, that is another story.

I have no idea what stage you are at with Elements and Create, so I took a wild guess that maybe one day you did a Custom Slideshow (that is the day with the captions) and, more recently, you used the Simple Slideshow (the time when you did not get the captions).

If you have been doing the Custom Slideshow all along, is there anything else missing besides the captions, naming transitions, durations,...?

Using the Custom Slideshow here, I tried unsuccessfully to force the disappearance of the captions in the Custom Slideshow. So, I will continue to ponder this if you are say that you have been and are creating the Custom Slide Show.

Just in case the original poster is using PSE4, as far as I can tell there's no 'simple' or 'custom' slide show in PSE4. Instead, after creating the slide show, when you choose to Output the slide show, you can choose between saving as a PDF or .wmv. I've chosen to output slide shows as PDFs using PSE4, and captions do appear.

Sistinesteph, are you saying that when you mix older pictures and newer ones in the same slide show, the older ones show captions and the newer don't? If that's the case, I think I'd go back and double check to make sure I didn't do something crazy like accidentally put the newer captions into the notes field instead of the caption field. But it sounds like that isn't the problem, since you say the captions are appearing in other types of creations.

From within the slide show editing window, go to the Edit menu, choose Slide Show Preferences, and check to make sure you've got the "Include Photo Captions as Text" box checked.

Good luck sorting it out!
:) Carolyn

jplain,

Thanks for your post and your suggestions for a possible Elements 4.0 user.

Sistinesteph,

I addressed the issue based on Elements 3.0.

Thank You both and I have tried everything that you have suggested, but it still is not working. I think I'll just have to add text to the pictures that are not working.

Sistinesteph,

I went digging into my box of miscellaneous Elements 4.0 info and looked at the Slide Show Preferences dialog.

You said that you already have "Include Photo Captions as Text" checked off.

Further down in the Dialog there is a place "Crop to Fit Slide: Landscape Photos Portrait Photos. Is either checked? If they are checked, try unchecking them and see what happens. If they are already unchecked, then I am out of ideas for now.

For your reference files, I am including the link for Adobe's very comprehensive Create document (Adding Titles and Text for Slideshows starts on page 20).
