The subject in the two images below is the bridge. Does one image portray that better than the other?
Thank you kindly for your opinion.... a learning exercise for me.

Pat
Is this a trick question?:D
Honestly - now remember I'm seeing double - but I don't see any real ifference between them. That said, in the small thumb I thing the bottom one looks better but when I blow them up and compare one on top of the other it's hard to see any difference.

Thanks Nancy .... no, not a trick question :D
I'll elaborate later so as not to bias the advice. :)

Pat,
I like the tighter crop but there really doesn't seem to be a significant difference netween the two. I think it's obvious that the bridge is the subject in photo photos. My eye is naturally drawn there. Nice shot of a beautiful bridge.

Hi,
both seem equal but the way that the right hand side of the bridge goes into the foliage makes it seem a little twisted to me. Mind you, my old eyes ain't what they used to be.

Pat, I like the larger crop better for some reason. I like the way the shore mimics the line of the bridge. A new sky may add some contrast so the bridge would stand out more, it sort of blend right into the sky right now.

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond everybody, all of you were really helpful to me.
This lovely bridge is the Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls. I loved this bridge and the shoreline. I was happy enough with the original image (#2) but the rule-of-thirds crept into my mind, thus the tighter version (#1) with that theory applied. I've not thought alot about it and wondered if it would improve the photo, even though I know that every rule can and perhaps, should be, discarded in favour of preference.
I didn't see much of a difference either so your comment about the bridge being obvious is so true Norm and something that didn't occur to me. Nancy got it !!
I like them both but still prefer the original #2 without knowing exactly why, just liking that shoreline. I didn't like cropping it off at all. So your comment was really interesting to me Terry as you knew why you were drawn to that one - I'm trying to see the lines you do. I've never substituted a sky before but I'm going to try it, really interested to see if the bridge will pop a bit more with that. Of course I didn't see that either.
Unfortunately, the sun was too bright the day we were at Niagara and I'm finding alot of the images somewhat washed out. Thank heavens I did shoot some of them RAW and make improvements to the colour, but I was disappointed in the colour even with that.
Kev I don't know about twisted, but it is taken at an odd angle perhaps. I'm still not certain that bridge is perfectly straight though - drives me crazy!
Thank you all so much.... so very helpful to me as I try to develop an eye for what I am shooting and editing. I learned alot! :)

Pat ...
I prefer the original too ... but can't put my finger on why. I just do :)

I like image # 2 -- something about the curve of the shoreline and the curve of the bridge just seems to go together for me.
