View Full Version : Catalog Question

I've created a new catalog that is huge and is causing elements to move as slow as molasses. So, since i have an extra hard drive on my PC, can I move that catalog to the other hard drive and have elements draw on it from there when I'm working in elements (which is installed on the c: drive)? Then, I could work off of elements on my c: drive and have the huge catalog housed on the d: drive. Does that make sense? If I can do this, does anyone know how to do so? I've looked around but I don't want to make a big mess and ruin all the hard work I've put into this huge catalog. Thanks in advance!

I think what you are suggesting will work, cos that is how I have it.
I have a number of catalogues. The main one (called Main, rather originally) holds all images, not backed up and and proxies to back up. The rest are reffered to my slave drive (:f) where all my photos can be easily accessed, My Boys (dogs), Travel (holidays etc) and so on. There are also some rather silly back up of back up catalogues that just hold proxies, but I had too much time on my hands and it seemed a good idea at the time.
ALL these catalogues are on my :c drive and PSE 4 is on my :c drive, as many refer to the organiser just directs you on a path to where an image is stored. So you can keep it anywhere and images somewhere else.
PSE organiser let's you do anything, as long as you are not naughty and try to interfere outside the organiser. Slapped wrist and lot's of broken link icons if you do that.
